I'm new to this site, and this has probably been discussed in great detail, but I have to rant.
I've lost 14 pounds over the last few months; now I'm 5' 5" and 140, hoping to be 129. Anyway, I went to Winner's yesterday to try on shorts, and yay! I'm a size 6 (at least in American Eagle clothes). But... minor problem. There's no way I'll be wearing these shorts because I have cellulite on the inside and back of my thighs. Considerable cellulite.
Anyone else have this problem? Will it go away once I hit 129 or 130? I work out at the gym too (squats and all that), so I'm hoping that will help. Or hey, I know that on the Tyra show they're featuring that Nivea Anti-Cellulite cream. Anyone used it before?
I am not even thin, just a nice healthy 128lb at 5'3", my cellulite pretty much all went away at about 135lb. I doubt cream will do anything. Healthy diet and water might help... genetics and luck is probably most of it.
Believe it or not, even the thinnest people have cellulite. Some more than others. I've heard of lots of "firming" creams and lotions that claim to get rid of cellulite but I haven't tried any to see if it's just a gimmick. The best thing you can do is to keep up the squats and leg work and the cellulite will become less and less. Thats the only guarantee to diminish cellulite, and for some people even that doesn't get rid of it completely.
Drink lots and lots and lots of water, apparently caffeine makes it worse so try cutting down (don't know that for sure, just what I've heard) and firmly massage your orange peel-y areas twice a day, with any type of body lotion, doesn't have to be a specific cellulite or firming one, the massaging action is supposed to help by itself. God luck!
Sad news ladies... I am with you on the wish-there-was-a-miracle-cure-for-cellulite line of thinking but alas there is not! Diet and exercise have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite, but apparently at this point and time (not to say that there won't be something in the future) there are NO products on the market that will actually reduce cellulite although some may "reduce the appearance" of it by irritating the tissues around that fat cells that make up the cellulite, so it will be a temporary and expensive solution.
From what I understand cellulite happens when the network of fat cells underneath your skin grow too close to your veins and arteries, causing them to get way "over-fed" by the extra nutrition from your bloodstream. That is why it only dimples in certain areas. Liposuction is also not an ideal solution since this can cause fat re-growth in strange areas making you look not just dimply but full on LUMPY and DISFIGURED.
That said, I am still holding out hope that modern medicine will save me some day. Until then, thank God for squats, lunges and bermuda shorts :)
I've had loads of cellulite since I was 15 (now 29) and always hated it, but in the last couple months, it has reduced a lot for the first time in my life! I've been getting a good burn on with high intensity exercise, and also I've found the more muscle you build the less room there is for cellulite. Burning calories isn't enough, you have to take steps to build muscle. Plain squats weren't doing much for me so I started doing weighted squats (go heavy enough that the exercise feels hard and get your butt all the way down, not just to knee level) and it's made all the difference! Also lots of fresh water and getting lots of protein and veggies helps! It's not like I have 'muscles' but muscle gives you that smoothed out look under the lovely natural girly curves :)
So for me the formula is build muscle, sweat lots and eat well!
Also, self-tanners diminish the appearance, as does "real" tanning. I know that's not good for you, but just as an FYI! :) Lots of leg work helps too, as noted above.
..not be be the bearer of bad news but my roommate is the skinniest thing I have ever seen in my life and still has it bad. Doesn't mean there is no hope yours just know that some times you can't do much about it. My roomie lives on organic veggies etc so it's not what she's eats its just genetic. She is trying some cellulite cream I will update you if it works :)
i completely understand! ive had cellutlite since i was 16 and it didnt get any prettier. I did find though that my cellulite signigicantly went down as I lost weight. Lower body exercises will definitely help since you will be building muscle. Also i've just heard about an at home treatment which should help with the reduction of appearance.... mix coffee grounds with baby oil until it turns into a paste and massage in an upwards circular motion on your problem areas. You can do this while you shower and is recommended for daily use. I havent tried it yet but plan to do it soon. i'll let you know if it works. ![]()
The less fat you have, the less cellulite you'll have. I'm about the same size I was in college but I've got much less cellulite now than I had then because my body fat percentage has gone down quite a bit. I added some nice solid muscle when I started lifting heavy weights a little over a year ago, burned off a good bit of the flubber on top, and voila - over that year I went from being thin and flabby to being thin and, well, perky, if I do say so myself. I still have a little cellulite, but I'm almost certainly the only one who is picky enough to notice it.
Keep up with your fat loss and don't be afraid to hit those free weights hard. Weighted squats are absolutely wonderful. You might not be able to get rid of 100% of your cellulite but you can improve it drastically. Just put your nose to the grindstone!
