Arms and elliptical

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone!

I've started using the elliptical and I'm very happy with it. I've been using it 3 to 5 times a week and I've built it up to about 80 minutes a go. I'm sure I'll be getting results pretty soon and I'm feeling healthier already.

The thing is, I'm noticing the biggest difference on my legs - they're toning up nicely. But my real complex is my arms and back area.

I find as I use the elliptical I can shift pressure from my legs to my arms, though never for very long. I usually use my legs more to push the pedals as opposed to my arms pulling and pushing the bars ; I just grip the bars and follow the pace set by my legs which are stronger. Will this impair my toning up? Cause I really do find it very hard using my arms "more" than my legs.

Any opinions or advice?

You just need to slowly build up the upper body strength then it won't be so hard. I have the same problems you do. I notice my legs are getting toned, but my upper body doesn't look the way I hope it would. Try lifting light weights, or doing modified push ups. The girly version, where you're on your knees. Sometimes when I'm on the elliptical, I use the countdown time to determine how hard I work. For example for one minute focus on using the arms more than the legs. Then rest your arms. When the next minute starts use the arms again. Space out the upper body work out as much as you like. Gradually, the arm strength should come.
