ARRRGGG! still no period! the ED carries on!
*sigh*
ok short and to the point
im 14 and am 5/5
went from 90-ish pound to the current 120-125 (57kg) in a month, maybe two.
mentally i'd say im cose to healed, still weigh myself whenever i can and most days count calories.
but i think about food less have gone days WITHOUT counting and have had great sexy-feeling days.
but this time i know what healthy is, eat 2000cals a day and happily maintaining.
anyways....
i'm always on edge about the fact i still have no period, i havn't since say february and i was in recovery from september-ish at a healthy weight at about late september-october. I really want kids, it's my personal goal in life and it's also a health milestone.
thing is mum doesn't think theres a worry and will only take me to the doctor if it hasn't come by 2009! i'd rather take possible action early? what action would that be anyway? if there is one?
ANY info whatsoever would calm me.....
thank you in advance :)
Reason: Moved from Weight Gain to Health and Support.
Did you have regular periods before you got sick? How old were you when you the problems started? And does your current diet include plenty of fats and iron-rich foods.
Loss of period can have a variety of causes. If you are underweight (though you're not), if you do not have enough fat intake, if you overexercise, as a result of PCOS or other hormonal imbalances, as a side-effect of certain medications - just a few, though the more common of the causes, but it's basically anything to stress your body into thinking it's unable to birth, quite simply.
If you want to get it back, aim to eat more fats in your diet, to exercise less if you're overdoing it and, most importantly, to make absolutely certain you bring it up with your doctor. The damages of amenorrhea include osteoporosis and infertility as well as coming along with the dangers of the causes of secondary amenorrhea alongside. Relay this to your mum, and she might view it a lot more seriously.
There is no set time period for how long it will take you to regain it. Just do all the right things and see your doctor.
fear not! it can take up to six months to a year of maintaining a healthy weight for your periods to return. once they've come back, ideally you should gain 1 kg more in order to make sure that should you get ill with 'flu or vomiting and lose weight through that, they don't disappear again.
take it from someone who has had more ovary scans than cooked dinners - well not quite but you get my meaning (lil ED joke there.. mwahahaha.)
holbee-
hi, i think see your doctor and you may need to take some meds but it should be ok.
also, i saw on another post you eat on average 2000 cals, at your age im pretty sure you should be eating more than that so maybe eventho youve gained, your body is still not comfortable and needs more nutrients and fuel to work properly.
Hi, as someone sad before it may take time before it returns. But also be aware that stress such as worrying for the lack of it actually can make the problem worse. So instead of worrying go see your doctor, talk to him/her about your fears and then just let everything take its own time. Nature is a funny thing it will never be bossed around but I'll will reward you if you take care of it ie yourself.
Good for you for getting healthy! As others said, it will probably take some time for your period to come back, but I would go to a doctor as well, just to make sure everything is okay.
hello :) i am your height and weight, i used to be about 97lbs. i didn't have my periods for about 16 months, but they came back at my current weight - however it wasn't instant.. took about 3-4 months maintaining this weight before they came back.
my advice is to just keep eating enough, don't lose any weight and you should find your periods will be back in a few months. but make sure you keep your doctor updated.

Same thing happened to me. Consider going on a low-dose birth control pill. That restarted them for me three years ago and they've been regular since.
before getting sick i had heavy reglr periods, was very hormonal, despite my loathing of myself i was very healthy
my period began at 12 and a half maybe 13, i was just turned 14 when i was eating less and was realy bad a month or two after, born in march that is.
i eat enough fats i'd say, if i was thinking ED i'd say i ate too much; full cream dairy - cheese - milk - yoghurt - custard, butter somehow but into every dinner etc. as for iron, i put effort into, i have meat, about 250grams a day (although i'd admit last couple of days im guilty to not having much). what other than meat has iron?
would anxiety pills do anything?i use to take pills ton EASE my periods, but stopped late last year (2007) i don't think i over-exercise, although i do, and fearing my period have stopped bar weights (not much at all). i also believe i stress qute a bit about life, school expectations, now im not anti-social (from ED) im always upset over school stuff and althoug quite personal will say sexual fantasies feeling etc. have increase, so maybe my hormones are fine?
i plan to talk to mum again about i tonight, i was told by a psycologist it's usually about 3 months, so after christmas mum mentioned she might do something.
lmao mashed tatties ED joke :)
i eat 2000cas-2100cals daily because any more and i gain, but then again im not properly counting, just estimating, i have added an extra daily snack just in case, but those days have had smaller meals i feel, so i'l try to add as much as i safely can
yeah....im always crying about my future...kids....studying(school)....my bf (btw him, my friends and family are all convinced after 3 years we're perfect, but i have my doubts, yet again expectations are stressing me)
nice to know my height and weight is normal :) thanks bugsy!
i will even take birth control pills if i need to, any bad side effects of that?
OMG! thank u sooo much all of you! it's greatly appreciated :P
if i were you i wouldn't resort to pills just yet (although it is your decision, im just giving my opinion :]).. 2,000 calories sounds good, your BMI is in the healthy range, and it sounds like you are sensible with your diet. do you take a multivitamin? that might be a good idea, just in case you were missing out on anything. it sounds like you're doing everything right though. IMO i think if you give your body a bit more time to heal, things should get back to normal. good luck! x
Hey,
just wanted to let you know I am in the same situation, lost my period last summer due to a too restrictive diet, just started really eating more balanced around July and still have yet to receive my montly. I am going to the dr in December, I will let you know if she has any suggestions.
I think it takes a long time to get your body back in a normal rythem and I read someone that not having a period is your bodies mechanism of preventing pregnancy when your body isnt equipped (healthwise) to handle it.
Not sure how accurate that statement was, but it did make sense to me, how is your fat intake? Mine is still on the lower end less than 30 grams per day and I dont eat meat not sure how that factors in. But your not alone! I will let you know if I get any additional info
Until then keep going with your recovery and congrats on your progress :)
ooh! that wuld be great if you could stardust :)
