arrrrghhh - frustrated with results of exercise program

Quote  |  Reply
For about a month now i've been doing around 2 hours at the gym every day, burning off about 1000 calories doing brisk uphill walking, rowing, them full body things and exercise bike.  And I've stopped eating any sort of crap.  And yet I'm hardly shifting any weight at all- I started at 161lb I got down to 156lb a bit ago and now I'm right back up to 160lb! Howww has this happened? So annoying it is unbelievable.

Are you adding muscle? That would be a good thing. Instead of using the number on the scale, how do you feel? How do your clothes fit? I've only "lost" about 3 pounds all summer, but I've put on a lot of muscle and my pants and such are looser, and I just feel better all around, and that's a much better indicator.

If not, add some weight training to your routine if you're not already, that can really help increase metabolism and burn fat.
Try logging your food here.  Its surprising how calories can sneak into your day even with eating the good stuff.  Be sure you are eating enough too.  If you are eating too little your body may try to hang on to fat stores
No one needs two hours at the gym outside of professional athletes. Don't do this to yourself. Like smartjock said, you definitely need a weight program. You're doing all cardio it sounds like, and it's really not effective on its own. Two or three days cardio, three days weights, and one day rest. Add a proper diet and watch all your calories like agana said and weight will fall off of you-the weight you want to fall off; FAT. You want to keep muscle as much as you can. The scale doesn't move as much but you'll get smaller that way. I don't care if I weighed 200lbs, as long as I was in a size 6.
if you are burning 1,000 calories per workout, you need to eat enough to keep the metabolism running. if you are burning that much and not eating enough your body will store fat and you will actually gain weight. So make sure you are eating enough.

why are you at the gym so long? It is detrimental to your body to work out that long, anything over an hour is too long. Depending on how long you have been doing this you are probably over training, which will cause weight gain, loss of muscle, and a weak immune system.
thanks guys, i might cut down a bit.  i'm going so often because my dance teacher said i need to loose weight and build up my fitness by october and i was determined to do it.  bodies are weird, aren't they.

How much are you eating?

If you're not eating enough, you're burning MUSCLE, not fat!

Take it down a notch. Or two. And eat more.

I'd bet the farm is your caloric intake, not output, that is preventing you from losing anything.
your working out too much and not eating enough.  your body is instarvation mode and it will not let you drop fat.  You are also working out too much.  Your muscles neec time to rest and repair.  You should be taking off 1 day a week and dont lift every day.  You need to up your calories too.
