Article on Female Body Training

Quote  |  Reply
Got this info from my other forum. Some of you may have read it, but anyway, I thought I share it with you.

I have always been concerned about bulking-up through workouts, and I know I am not alone in this. "This article written by Chad Waterbury is slightly controversial but can certainly explain why some women here feel that although their bf goes down their clothes feel tighter in some places."

Note: This article probably relates more to people who are maintaining or almost there in their goal. By no means that I claimed his view is the ultimate truth, but it can give you something to ponder and carefully choose your training routine.
It is a long article, so, enjoy! ^_^;

I enjoyed the article - but for some his language they may take offense too so be warned.  I so now wish I could run.  Its my thighs and ab that store the most fat and I want to reduce.  Gonna hve to take it easy on the leg presses when school starts back up.
Some of those exercises look pretty good, but I wish I wouldn't have read his intro and just skipped straight to the exercises!!!  That dude has a potty mouth.

Also, as one of my favorite profs once said, "The plural of anecdote is not evidence."  A lot of that guy's examples seem flawed to me...

The Britney Spears photo comparison?  He compared her teenage photo to her adult photo, did not have her actual measurements, and certainly didn't take the photos himself (um, airbrushed Hollywood anyone?!?).  And his male-female clients' squat comparison?  SO MANY other factors could have influenced the difference in those two - amount of cardio, for one, genetics, perhaps, for another.

My favorite line however was, "I read 89 articles..." on some muscle thing, to prove he was an expert.  LOL!  Exactly 89?  Because what if article 90 or 91 disagreed?  Were those articles from peer-reviewed journals, I'd like to know...

It seems to me that this dude doesn't think muscular athletic women are hot, and so he wants to train women to look how he thinks they should...  I for one have never really worried about bulking up, because the only ones I have ever seen that happen to were actually trying!  (And even then, they had to have a seriously strict regimen.)
Oh yeah! Forgot about 'foul language' warning XD sorry about that.
I thought it was a really great article. I was a serious high school athlete, competing on the national level at lacrosse and hockey, and I was trained by trainers and coaches for years to have big, bulky muscles. This was especially this case for hockey, because my sister and I played on teams that were all boys (except for us), and we needed the extra weight to be competitive. Now that I'm retired (aka a sophmore in college), its been really hard for me to find other sorts of weight lifting regimens that don't give me the huge bulky muscles I've had my whole life (despite the fact that I'm an exercise and sport science major).
I didn't think that the guy who wrote this thinks athletic or muscular women are unattractive. In fact, he says many times that this is only one type of workout, and if you are looking for another type, he has plenty of those, too! Also, about the reading of 89 articles, I'm pretty sure they were peer-reviewed, academic journals, because he said he read them in preparing for his doctoral thesis. He isn't some shmuck that is making this stuff up- at the very least, he has a solid education in the subject.
amen to that michellew54!!!! about the britney spears comparison pics, that's the first thing that came to my mind...wasnt she like 17 on the first picture?!? her body could have changed since then
I know this is kind of late to reply, but I was just curious about the flip diet that the article's author encourages. How are you supposed to lower your body fat if you are eating fats for 60% of your diet three-quarters of the time? Wouldn't that increase your body fat percentage? Hmmm. Unless thats what gives you those female curves and booty.

Thank you!!! Laughing

I wanted to show this to my ab-busting-only daughters, and couldn't find it again!!! It was an interesting view... We Ladies might want our own type of results...! I'm not a man...lol! Laughing

I'm curious to know if anyone's been following this for any length of time? Seen any results?
Hey there!

I've been following this program for 3 weeks now, I don't really want to lose any weight, as I'm 5'7" and 115, but I really wanted to lose inches in my waist and reduce my bf %, b/c even when I was at a much lower weight than I am now, I couldn't get my waist below 26". (I was an obsessive ab and oblique worker). I have been doing the flip diet, which is not hard to follow, and I just measured my waist on the morning of a high carb day (so following 3 days of no carbs) and guess what? 25"! I haven't worked my obliques for 3 weeks, have been doing a lot of running, and I lost an inch in my waist! I haven't taken any other measurements, but my fiancee thinks my butt looks really good!

Ashleigh that's interesting, thanks for sharing. Few questions:

Had you ever tried a similar diet without the exercise program? I am wondering how important the diet part of it is (which I don't really intend to follow), vs if it's the training that caused the effect.

Also if you see changes in other measurements could you let us know?

Are you running instead of or in addition to thte cardio suggested in the plan?
Hey there-

It's hard to say exactly whether or not this plan would work for someone in a different situation than I am-I've been in recovery for anorexia for about 1.5 years, and so my metabolism is pretty screwed up, and I am already at a pretty low weight.

But, I will say I have done the South Beach diet, which is pretty similar, and didn't see any change. I actually gained a couple pounds on that, partly b/c I felt like b/c I was on a "diet" I could eat a lot more than I usually did, and those almonds and peanut butter and cheese calories add up fast!

In terms of the cardio-I just moved into a new house 2 weeks ago. For the first week I followed the exact cardio listed, b/c my parents have a huge home gym, but since moving into my new house I've been running for whatever time each day is set for, trying to do what is listed. For example, instead of interval biking, I've done interval running (jogging and sprinting).

I think I'm going to take some other measurements today, I'd also really like to have my body fat % tested (I think I'm around 19% right now), so I can track that as well.

I'll keep you posted!
Hmmm! That's interesting!! I wonder if the diet forces your body to burn fat instead? Yes, please keep us posted!!
