I think this article is worth it for most of you to read. It's a free ebook put together by Tom Venuto on "A Shocking Expose of the 12 Biggest Scams, Cover-ups, Lies, Myths and Deceptions In The Diet and Weight Loss Industries!"

Check out the link!

Great article HK.  I am going to get my teenaged daughter to read it!! I like the way it explains why eating 800 calories a day won't work.  Thanks!
That's a great article. Thanks HK!:)
Cool article.  I bookmarked it.  Do you have the book?
Very cool article! Gonna forward this on to my wife, she will enjoy it.
Love this line: "The cause of body fat in most cases is inactivity, poor nutrition and often a negative self-image. " Nice summing up!

My favorite quote from this article (in Fat Lie #2) is "the only way to lose fat and keep it off permanently, is to reduce your calories slightly and increase your activity greatly. It's always better to burn the fat than try to starve the fat." Good advice!
Great article... and a thought: although the article said losing weight is never easy... I think it is easy if done right.  That is done by a well balanced eating plan and not depriving your body of the healthy food it needs.  The very restrictive diets (which don't work) are the hardest to stick with.  Yes, the CC way may take longer - but it works - and it's the best "diet" I've been on.  Just have to come to terms with there's No Quick Fix.
I personally disagree that it's easy, but I do agree that it's simple, as in.. the way to do so is simple. :) And, yes, I think it's a great article, which is why I am going to **BUMP** it! ;D
**bump** Read this. Seriously. :)
excellent article!
I guess by what I mean by "easy" is that I'm not hungry... and when I do get hungry ... lol... it's actually time to eat!  On many of those "fad" diets, you're either hungry or not allowed to eat certain foods - which makes it so much harder.
I just bought the book online. It's an e-book. It looks legit and has some very inspiring information. I have not yet had time to read it, as it is 341 pages long, but I plan to read it all in the next couple of days. I will post again if I find anything I've never heard around this site, or if I plan on reccomending this book. One thing that I did notice off the bat however, this book is designed for people that are already "healthy" (not necessarily in a healthy BMI/weight range, but people that are not diabetic, hypertensive, etc.). Just thought I would add that note. Since I am his version of "healthy," I just need to loose fat and tone muscle, I look forward to the read. I will let you all know what I find.
Thanks for the link.  Mr. Venuto is on the mark on all counts.  Instant gratification has really taken hold on our culture.  This journey is not easy, but it gets easier as I go along.  He is right about having a positive mental attitude -- I think one, at first, has to almost become obsessed with getting the mindset in the right place.

Now that I am paying more attention to what I am eating and how a particular food can benefit my body, the foods that once tempted me do not.  I can walk down the candy and snack food aisles and not feel compelled to pick up a bag of something.  Before, it might have been a whole bag of Salt and Vinegar chips or large box of candy gone in no time.

It's all about choices.  I am making the choice to do good things for my body.  My gym instructor, a friend of mine, tells my husband and me we are "Born Again Hardcore."  At 43, I feel like I am running out of chances to get it right.

I stopped in my doctor's office to say hi and let them see the progress I have made including being able to give up the high blood pressure and asthma medications-- and they wanted to know what I was doing to get results.  As Mr. Venuto states -- a moderate decrease in calories, a big increase in exercise, better food choices, and the positive attitude.  I told them -- no pills, no crazy diet, no secret formula.

It is so, so simple -- but at first, it is not easy.  To all who are struggling, hang tough and hang in there.  One step at a time, one day at a time.  Read and re-read Mr. Venuto's article to help you keep your focus and keep your goals ever present in front of you.

Peace!
