When to Call Your Lactation Consultant (LC)
Knowing when to call for help can really make your breastfeeding experience go a lot more smoothly. Here are some examples of reasons to call the lactation consultant:
- Pain while breastfeeding
- If you have multiples
- If your baby is premature
- If you have had a breast reduction
- If you don't hear your baby swallowing during feedings
- If your baby has fewer than six wet diapers a day
- Your baby is ill or has jaundice
- Your baby is having weight gain difficulties
- If your baby is very sleepy
- If you have engorgement
- If you are concerned about your milk supply
- If you have nipple soreness or pain
- If you or your baby have thrush
- If you think you have a plugged duct
- If you have mastitis
- If you are taking medications or have questions about taking medications while nursing
- If you have questions about choosing a pump or using a breast pump
- If you have any questions about breastfeeding
