It really makes me MAD that a staple in my house is so dangerous to my diet...ie... RICE.  Rice has so many dern calories.  Boo, rice.

I love sushi so much and that makes me mad too.

*sigh*

Lol, I'm half asian.
I used to eat CUPs and CUPs of it
Its hard, huh.
Try making your own sushi with less rice, more veggies, switching to brown rice, or at least basmati instead of jasmine (GI) or having smaller portions, and making up for it with salad. Also try congee - lots and lots of water, boiled for AGES. You can use less rice.
I used to eat cups a day. Now i barely touch the stuff. Just remember, not only is it lots of cals, its empty cals (white that is) unlike pasta, which at least has b vitamins.
Just load up on the steam veggies. ASian foods can be good for diets. Bok cho, guy lan are good. Tofu is a good source of protein. Agar-agar is like no calorie jelly (if you maek it yourself, nto the flavoured packets. add your own no-cal falvouring or fruit)

Also, I was never fat when I ate all that rice. Only when I started eating junk and chocolate and rubbish did it all pack on. Just exercise it all off - use the rice to your advantage - a course of quick release energy.
Not Asian, but in Asia at least.  :)  Why not eat more sashimi instead of sushi?

Also try mixing some other, healthier grains in when you eat white rice.  My current container of "plain" rice is about 1/8 brown rice, and I can't even tell the difference.  Even though it is not much, it's a bit healthier.  On top of that I sometimes mix in more brown rice, black rice, barley, millet, etc.

Another helpful thing is to memorize the size of one cup of rice, in case you're somewhere where you can't measure, like a restaurant.  I always assumed one rice bowl was about one cup, but plenty of places use bigger bowls.  Now I'm careful about portions, and manage lose weight eating at least 1 cup of rice per day, sometimes two.
