Is my daily fried eggs and pancakes breakfast a problem?
Asked by anonymous on Jun 10, 2008 in Weight Loss

I lost 50 lb in exactly 6 months through Calorie Count and I am going to loose some more because my diet and exercise regiment is working for me. I am concerned with my sudden appetite for "pancakes and fried eggs". I am suddenly "in love" with fried eggs and pancakes for breakfast, but I still manage to stay within my 1200-1300 calories per day, and I exercise at least 45mins to an hour everyday. Do you think this daily fried eggs and pancakes breakfast habit may be unhealthy or dangerous to my health?

Answer

You have added fried eggs and pancakes to your diet nicely.  Those foods are very nutritious when prepared with oil and fat-free milk.  But more important, you gave yourself permission to eat what you want, and figured out how to add it to your diet. That is a self-affirming action related to success. By allowing yourself to eat what you want, you set yourself free – free to satisfy your desires and also free to delay satisfaction until another time.  Unlike binging, which is an out-of-control feeling, granting yourself permission places you in control. “Forbidden” foods become less attractive when they are allowed. I’ll bet your “daily habit” fried eggs and pancakes won’t last long.
