How can I avoid temptations at restaurants?
Asked by anayesenia on Jun 30, 2008 in Emotional & Behavioral Issues

Eating healthy seems to get more difficult everyday. I do well during the week as I cook most of my meals at home. The problem starts on the weekends when my fiancé and I go out to eat, which can be anything from high end to McDonald's. It's very difficult for me to not give in. I just can't seem to be able to order a salad or grilled chicken rather than a burger and fries. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid temptations without having to say goodbye to restaurants?

Answer

In the restaurant, order whatever you want.  Really, order the burger and fries, and fit it into your calorie count. You can’t put yourself in diet prison if you want succeed at weight control.  Figure out how to eat exactly what you want.  Do you want half the burger and half the fries?  Skip the fires?  Skip the beverage?  Count it as two meals?  Burn it off with a night of dancing?  Banish your all-or-nothing thinking and, in time, you probably won’t want the burger, but this is about now….  Read Intuitive Eating to learn how to end rigid dieting forever.
