I am 117 pounds and I hula-hoop quite often. I'm not sure if I'm actually getting a real exercise, so I want to find out the amount of calories I lose an hour by hula-hooping.
Answer
Calories burned by hula hooping depend on whether the activity is stop-and-go or sustained, on the intensity and length time for the activity, and on the weight of the hula hoop itself. Very little exercise testing has been done on the hula hoop, but research from a Canadian kinesiology lab likened the hula hoop workout on Wii Fit to any light physical activity that burns about 325 calories an hour; however, research from the Cooper Institute for Human Performance showed that vigorous use of a “Heavy Hoop” burned about 800 calories per hour. You will have to decide which category best describes you.
