How can I eat in a restaurant and still be healthy? Are there healthy restaurants in New York City?
Asked by anonymous on Feb 17, 2008 in Weight Maintenance

In February, I'll be traveling to New York from London for my 21st birthday. I would like to enjoy eating out without the guilt, but I have traveled to America and I am astounded at portion sizes and the abundance of food. I will be eating out most nights. Can anyone from America give me healthy tips to live by? I am also looking for good restaurants in New York City. I want something quirky and high quality. I'm not interested in chain restaurants.

Answer

In a restaurant, feel free to ask the server about the portion size and how the food is prepared. To reduce your portions, split an entree with your companion, order an appetizer and soup instead of an entree, or take some food home. Order sauces and dressings on the side, skip fried food, and go easy on alcohol and dessert. New York City is full of restaurants where it's easy to order healthy food.
