I hear it all the time - at 30 and older, it is harder to lose weight and keep it off. They say you have to restrict yourself just to lose the weight you want. I'm just wondering if it's really true.
Answer
It is not particularly harder to lose weight in your 30's. In adults, the metabolic rate declines by about 2 – 3% per decade, but that amounts to a reduction of about 50 calories a day - per decade. The reason why people gain weight and find it difficult to lose because they expend less energy in physical activity, which deteriorates their muscle mass. And so you need to do strength-training exercise to preserve your muscle mass and engage in regular aerobic activity to burn calories. Also, take a multivitamin-mineral supplement because research shows that multivitamins, chromium, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 may help to slow down middle-age spread.
