Is it okay to stay around 1250 calories instead of the 1450 targeted?
Asked by a_olivarria on May 15, 2008 in Weight Loss

Will my metabolism slow down if I don't eat as much?

Answer

The expects aren't sure if your metabolism actually slows down when you under-eat, but it is better to eat 1450 calories a day for a several reasons.

You will be:

  • More likely to get all the nutrients you need
  • Less likely to feel deprived and start binging
  • Less likely to breakdown your muscle to meet your calorie needs
  • More likely to practice making the same choices that you'll have to make every day when you reach your goal weight

Rapid weight loss is rarely maintained, and so slow down and enjoy the journey.
