Does yerba mate help to lose weight?

Yerba Mate is a holly shrub native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. The dried leaves and stems are made into a bitter drink that increases alertness. Yerba Mate contains caffeine and other stimulant compounds that may increase calorie burning; however, it has not been proven to promote weight loss in human studies. The principle side effects of Yerba Mate are excessive stimulation and high blood pressure. Yerba Mate also contains beneficial antioxidants.
