could it be asthma?

Quote  |  Reply
ive had it before but lately its been getting more frequent- like once every few days rather than once a month: i can breathe but its... uncomfortable.  like im getting oxygen but i feel like my breaths are very shallow even when i breathe as deeply as i can.  does anyone know what this might be?

That does sound like an asthmatic reaction to something...  Do you find yourself having to clear your throat or making little coughs at the same time?  Rather than guessing or self-diagnosing, however, do go to see your doctor and ask their opinion.  Medication for asthma is very effective.
no coughing or clearing my throat... i do find myself yawning, though, to try to get a satisfying deep breath but i end up not being able to breathe in ANY air when i yawn

So not to totally freak you out but that's how I felt when I had  a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung).  You should really get this checked out ASAP.

yikes... well i happen to be going to the doc for a regular checkup tomorrow so ill tell her about it then- what kind of tests do you need to find that?

They did a bunch of tests on me when I came in and I'm not sure which was to diagnosis the PE and which was to check for other things.  They did x-rays, CT Scan, and blood work.

@alle: The CT scan would be to diagnose the pulmonary embulism. I had them too. If it's bad enough, they will hospitalize you to get you on the correct dosage of blood thinners. They also did an ultrasound on my legs to make sure that the blood clots weren't forming in my legs and traveling to my lungs.

@justkeeprunning: I don't know what it is, but I have the exact same problem every morning. It gets better after a few hours, but first thing in the morning I cannot get a deep breath. I'm not sure when it started but it wasn't related to the PE. I could get a deep breath with that....just painfully.

just to update e/o:
i went to the doc today and when i said i had no history of asthma or allergies she said it was probably just humidity and going from hot weather into air conditioning...
