I'm freaking out! I actually ate an entire wheat bagel this morning!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so afraid I will explode or something now.

I haven't eaten an entire bagel in months.

This is good, right?  I shouldn't feel bad about myself, right?  Why do I feel awful about myself?

I don't think I can eat again, especially any carbohydrates until dinnertime now.

Try eating 2 whole wheat bagels WITH cream cheese. I did that for like a week but of course i was trying to gain weight.

Just eat healthier the rest of the day and do some cardio or something

If you are recovering from an ED, then YES! This is an EXCELLENT step!! Good for you!! A 'normal' person eats an entire bagel with /toppings/ on it, so you're getting closer!

And don't worry... you won't gain weight from a bagel... lmao.
And if you aren't recovering, then, like I said, it's just one bagel - you'll be okay. =)

Edit: Make sure you DO eat throughout the day. Not eating will simply slow your metabolism even more than it probably has already; counter productive.

You feel awful because you are completely unused to eating a half way normal serving size of ANYTHING.

Heck you may even be really sleepy now since your blood sugar might register :-)

Actually I'm really tickled you ate a bagel. Remember its your disease telling you lies that certain foods are off limits etc.

Eroth that is awesome! I actually can feel for your becuase I use to never touch bagels. Yesterday for our holiday breakfast my mom picked some up from Panera Bread and guess who had a cranberry walnut one (with cream cheese and all)? Yeppp, that would be me. At first I was freaking out, and then I realized that everyone around me was eating way more and that I was actually starting to feel normal again...this is great! Good juob for you, and just remember how amazing it was and think of how whole wheat is great for you! Remember you are trying to get healthier!
i don't know what time you ate your bagel, but you should probably still eat something else before dinner. one bagel won't hurt you, as unbelievable as that may sound. i totally know how you feel though. one time last spring in the middle of my eating disorder my friend's mom bought us bagels with cream cheese from brueggers. it was soo good (considering i hadn't had one of those bagels and cream cheese for over a year), but i felt SO fat and guilty afterwords and didn't eat anything the rest of the day. but trust me, there are much worse things you could have eaten. bagels are usually high in protein and low in fat, and if it was whole-wheat it should have a fair amount of fiber in it. good luck!
dont worry hun, you wont gain weight from having a bagel. in fact if thats all you had for breakfast, im sure youll LOSE weight. no worries

wow, i wish i could eat a whole bagel... I am still scared.

It has been years since I have had one... I will eat peices of one, but an entire thing just seems like so much. It is so dense and thick, and "carby"... just some fears I am still working on getting over.

But congrats for you, I hope that one day I can as well...

Wheat bagels are very healthy, so you shouldn't feel guilty in any way. They have fiber, iron, manganese... lotsa good stuff.

For me, peanut butter was one of my biggest stepping stones. I had been afraid of it for monthssss. But now I have it everyday. Keep goin' girl, you're doing great! :)

Thanks for all the support and encouragement.  I wouldn't have eaten the entire bagel but my mom was sitting there watching me and I couldn't toss any of it, as she's really been on my back to eat more lately.  The stupid thing was on my mind all day long.  I'  trying really hard to see it as a accomplishment.

I managed a bit of deli turkey for lunch.

For dinner I had about a 1/2 cup steamed chicken, some steamed veggies, and 1/4 cup of brown rice.

I know its weird, but I had mustard with everything.

Wheat bagels are healthy and yummy! Don't feel bad about yourself..it really is an accomplishment! I was scared to start eating bread & cheese again..and now I have them everyday.
Eroth bagels are great, especially whole wheat. I actually have a problem eating bagels too because they seem so bad for you, but I had one over Christmas and it was totally satisfying. So for lunch you only had deli meat? AHHHHyaaa....this is what I use to do in my worst of ED. Are you still going inpatient? I use to feel the same way about carbs like if I had one serving a day then I couldn't have it later but hun in all actuality you need carbs with every meal. You should be eating toast or bread on the side of a salad or make a sandwich instead of just eating the turkey. I know you feel guilty because of ED about this bagel thing, but truthfully I am glad you ate the whole thing because sometimes I really feel for your post and I just wish that I could hold out my hand and bring you down recovery lane with me! Small steps are great, but as soon as you hear these thoughts....brush them off and then dip that bagel in so yummy cream cheese! Take care darling I am pulling for you!

If you didnt' eat it with loads of cream cheese i wouldn't worry abt it.
I no exactly how you feel, I was SO scared to eat a bagel, and when I finally did... I regretted it SO much! But now I eat bagels as a meal, and sometimes for a snack. Just continue to eat, and remember bagels are healthy, its not like you binged or ate something bad. :)
