i was hungry earlier so I had a 1/2 of a banana the other half my 2 yr old son wanted.....then I still had that sweet craving...so i had a one 100 calorie bag Right bites cookies & cream cookies.....I have don't eat any Fiber one cereals or bars...my almost 6 yr old son has a nut allergy so we all avoid nuts and don't buy anything containing nuts or made in factory or processed on the same line as nuts.......a lot of high fiber options do contain nuts...so I have to be careful of those. So am going to a Halloween party tomorrow with the kids...I know there will be tons of goodies that i will have to avoid, I volunteered to bring the veggies & dip so i should be Ok if I stick to those....ugh now I am having stomach cramps...i think it was the Sugar free chocolate covered pretzels..i think they contained xylitol...UHOH......
JP,
You have to beware of the amount of xylitol/sorbitol you eat...it's the same stuff we give for laxatives in the hospital sometimes.
I wouldn't have thought 5 pretzels would have done it, but people are all different.....
Just remember- this too shall pass (snicker) bad pun intended.
JP,
ICBINB is "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter". I don't know where you are living or what products are available, but it's a zero calorie buttery flavor spray. But just a word. It's only zero in small amounts. Once you start pouring it on stuff it does have calories.
I like it to give a buttery flavor to veggies and baked potatoes, etc. I do not like it on bread because the amount of water in it is too high. I also don't cook with it.
I like butter flavor Pam to cook with. ICBINB is good on popcorn too and makes some of the flavorings stick to it better.
arkansas blacks are apples. The color is very very dark, and they are very firm to the bite and sweet and juicy. the are ready end of october begining of november. I hope next weekend I will find some at the Farmer's market. Where I live just about anything you can think of growing to eat, grows. so many people have apple trees and they end up at the Farmer's market.
edit to my food log:
I ate a serving of soup and 2 breadsticks : / i'm at 1570 cal now, its got to be a hormone thing. My choices this week have been horrible - back on track tomorrow with more fruits and veggies. I think I have only eatten salad once this week : /
I need to go to bed and stop eatting!
Who knows what makes us crave certain flavors or salt or sweet or chocolate? There's speculation out there. I find for myself that when I am in good control and eating pretty well, that I tend to continue doing well. If I go out to eat or eat something too highly processed then my control starts to slip.
If I were to go and get into my hubby's stash of hershey's kisses I might eat Lord knows how many before I snapped out of it. Then it'd take me a couple of days to be rid of the idea of going and getting a couple more or eating something else I don't need.
Tomorrow IS another day. Your calories aren't too bad, are they? Think how good some fresh veggies are going to taste tomorrow.
What I ate today:
Breakfast/lunch:
1 Franz Everything Bagel w/ 2T whipped cream cheese
2 Eggs (fried w/ Pam)
6 oz Boysenberry yogurt
Dinner: (At a church soup & bread supper - I passed on the desserts)
1 Bowl (approx 1 cup) minestrone soup (no pasta in this one)
1 Bowl (approx 1 cup) chicken noodle soup
2 small slices french bread w/ 1T smart balance margarine
My food log has me at 1230 calories for the day - but this could be +/- a couple hundred as I could only take my best guess on the soups. (I looked through the soup recipes on here and found the ones that looked the closest to what I knew was in the soups and used 1 serving of that one) I am allowed 1950 calories a day right now so I'm sure I am still under that so it is all good.
Another small will power sucess - I left the brownies (even though they said fat free) for everyone else to eat. Yeah Me!!!!
Sunni
Yeah Sunni on passing on the desserts!! Kd....mmm thoses apples sound yummy ...and here I thought I knew every apple variety..I now live in Central NY ( I am from Long Island) which is big apple country...all the apples are so fresh and delicious right now...the one variety i love and can't get locally, at least from an orchard are Honeycrisp..they are so good.
My FIL is one of West Michigan's premiere apple growers. I was one of the first people outside the business to taste Honeycrisp. SO LOVE! *drools everywhere* They're currently rather cheap here in Texas. Only $1.99 a pound! Two years ago they were twice that. Turns out all tree fruit he grows (apples, cherries, pears, peaches) had a surplus crop this year so this is the year to eat as much of them as you want. Next year the prices go right back up! Another apple I recommend if you like Honeycrisp is Mastu. They're HUGE. One medium sized Matsu can make an entire apple pie! O.O In fact, I better check the mail today. We missed out on Honeycrisp this year, but we're getting an entire box of the Matsu. I'm so making my healthy apple pie!
Back to the topic at hand...I have major issues meeting my 2000/day calorie goal. I'm always between 700 and 1200 short. It's not that I'm starving myself because I feel like I eat all the time, I just have issues packing in high calorie foods. Well, today it's lunch. I've got two meals to go and am already at 1250 without gorging myself or eating gross things like fast food! :D
Hello Loviedovieann,
Can I call you Lovie for short? It's so nice to meet you. Are you losing the way that you feel you should? If you are, I wouldn't worry if my calories were around 1250 per day. I would really try not to drop below 1000.
I don't mind going below 1000 because I am so short and small boned that I don't get a big allowance anyway. I can only eat 1250 a day and lose a pound a week. I've done great so far, so I don't want to rock the boat (so to speak)
If you really want to add calories, add healthy fats to your diet such as nuts or olive oil or avocado. Fats are really concentrated sources of calories, are very satisfying and (if chosen wisely) are good for you.
Hey, texmom! My name's actually Dovie, so if you want you can call me that. Nice to meet you too. ^_^
To answer your question, no I'm not. I keep seesawing. I've noticed that the more I eat the more I lose now. But at 5'11 and 325, 1250 is certainly not enough. I'm learning that now!
Dovie,
I have to agree. Aim at your calorie target or just a couple of hundred under. If you have trouble getting in your calories, as I said, add in some healthy snacks...almonds, walnuts, avocados, dark chocolate. You know what sounds good to me? In Italian restaurants around here they serve a good whole wheat/nut bread that is served with a herb/olive oil/basalmic vinegar dip for the bread.
I can't eat it...it is way off my calorie budget, but if you are trying to add some healthy calories to your diet, there is a calorie packed food that is healthy for you (or at least healthier than some).
Please forgive me all you other people who are reading this for bringing up food that we have to avoid.
I just went in and refigured my calorie target....Down again from 1250 to 1200. Heavy sigh. That is if I want to continue to lose 1.5 pounds a week.
Eating enough food (except when I'm sick) is not one of my problems.
Dipping Italian bread at Carino's (Are we allowed to use company names here?) is one of my favorite parts. I actually eat more of that than my real entree. haha I haven't done that in a long time, though. Maybe I'll get the herbs and garlic together to make it at home this week! I also adore dark chocolate. You know the kind that's so bitter it makes your mouth pucker? I've been treating myself with an ounce or two once a week for years. Maybe I could bump that up to twice a week with a few almonds for those really short days.
I do feel guilty for mentioning these no-no foods that so many people have to avoid. It must be so odd to you guys that someone that looks like you can't manage to eat enough when you're trying so hard to cut back. Just another example of how diverse this community can be!
