Sunday's Food Choices:

No breakfast - wasn't sure what to expect at the church dinner today so I hedged my bets and ate nothing when I got up. Drank about 24 oz of water to fill my stomach - it did the trick.

Lasagna - a one cup serving 310 cal

Salad - lots and lots of this wonderful array of greens - 15 cal w/ ranch dressing that I was very careful with 120 cal

1 whole wheat bagel - 250 cal w/ cream cheese 60 cal

Saturday:

I was doing very well, well no wait. My day started bad, because I ate way too much monkey bread - logged my breakfast as 646 calories. Lunch, very little just some cajun turkey, dinner started so well. I took texmoms advice and mixed some pasta with lunch meat and wow it was really good..... then I got a little more pasta and added some brummel and brown.... then i was fine for a really long time. I wasn't even very hungry, but I ate an ice cream anyways.... next thing I knew I had eaten another.... then I found a hot dog from the beanie weanies earlier in the week... ate that with bread, and cheese(wtf?) and ketchup and onion and mustard... you see the time that went into preparing this fatty little thing? I think I ate something else, but I am not sure, total was about 1700. I need to stop doing these 1600-1700 days. I know it is still under what I need, but 200 cal deficit a day will take me forever and it is setting bad examples for myself... and it isnt ok just if i come here and admit it :D

Had a good work out day today with a 50 min walk in the park and then mowing my lawn.  Had a lil over a 1000 calorie deficit

Monkey bread...if I am guessing right, it's delicious and evil and a definate bad, bad thing to do!

You take 4 can of biscuits, cut them into 4 and coat them in a cinnamon/sugar coating.  Put them in a bundt pan and melt a whole stick of butter and pour it over them and then bake it.

You can add raisins or nuts too if you choose.  When it's done, pull it out of the oven, flip it over and onto a plate and then you pull it apart....picking at it like monkeys do.

OMG i might be having a craving now....of course it beats my McDonalds craving from last night when I wanted just way too much evil food!

Holy cow! I just gained a lb. just reading your description! lol

LOL!! exactly. I was good and only ate what the kids left. I could have probably ate more :D

Monkey Bread I used the analyzer on CC to desperately come up with a healthier way to make this.... and can only shave like 70 calories off - WHICH its still 70 calories. But... that's for one serving :)

Now the biscuits are gone and I think I need to just not ever buy them again! This has been my second run in with the monkey bread in as many months - I don't fare well.

Hello all,

I've been  hiding all weekend, but I'm out of hiding today and proud to say that the kid didn't do to badly.

Friday I didn't log, I don't know why,  I just didn't.  I was making soup and eating the soup in tasting spoonfuls all day, so I don't really know how much soup I ate but I didn't think it was much.  Other than that I went out with the BF for dinner.  I ate a salad with grilled chicken.  There is this restaurant in Midtown Sac called Crepeville that makes amazing salads.  I chose a half portion of the Parisean salad which consisted of:Greens, feta cheese, dried cherries, candied walnuts, fresh sliced pears.  They gave me a lot of chicken, I should have taken half of it home for lunch Saturday (but I didn't I ate the whole thing).  So I really don't know what my calories were for Friday but I don't feel bad about my choices.

Saturday:

Breakfast: 1 cup chicken breast (diced) 231 calories

Lunch: Espresso brownie and Venti soy lattee from Starbucks. 590 calories

This was my treat for not buying any binge trigger foods when I went food shopping. I told myself that as long as I didn't buy any treats or foods that would trigger a binge I'd allow myself to have a lattee and an brownie.  It actually did the trick.  I spent a lot more time thinking about my choices in the store.   I stood there and looked at the Laughing cow light cheese squares for like 5 minutes before I put them back.  I know very well that I would not be able to stop eating them once I started.

 The breakfast of champions!

Yesterday was dinner at my mom's:

B: Kashi Go Lean cereal and skim milk - 242

L: 2 Peanut Butter and Banana pitas - 415

D: 5oz Roast Beef, 3/4 cup mashed potatoes, cup of steamed broccoli, 1/4 cup white corn, 3/4 cup gravy - 582

Dessert: 1/8th Mrs. Smith' Blackberry cobbler w/ 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream - 310

S: pop secret 94% fat free popcorn - 130

Total: 1678

I intentionally went low at lunch as I wanted to have "all the trimmings" at sunday dinner.

alecto....you don't approve of my pork burger?............. it's like a lean sausage without the additives, way less fat than a hamburger, almost dry....our local butcher makes it....I sometimes reverse my breakfast and lunch.....my diabetes won't let me do cereals, at least not yet.....I can't even get away with fruit without a morning spike.....so I  am a little unconventional and try morning veggies instead, sometimes a salad......I'd rather have a bowl of cereal and milk, it would be easier but my numbers just go too high

If I ate what you ate today my blood sugar would be close to 300.  I am jealous.  I am following Dr. Bernstein's diet per my endocrinologist.  It is controversial because it is low carb, but for now it is getting my sugars under control.  The medicine alone was not effective and it was either this or insulin.

For Monday -

Lunch

Ham Sandwich & Bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup at Shari's

Dinner

2 cups salad

1/2 cup cottage cheese

1/2 cup salsa

3/4 cup tuna fish

1 whole wheat english muffin

Total calories for the day: 1104

beck: medicine alone isn't enough for me either. I tried to find a good list for that guys diet plan but didn't find too too much. I can eat some cereals, or rather, carbs, but it really needs to be a high fiber carb otherwise *whistles* there goes my blood sugar. The kashi go lean and fiber one cereals do about 25% fiber out of total carbs per serving - not counting milk. I have yet to find a good way to balance carbs out, while eating enough food, if I lower my fat content. Cheese is helpful, yet evil :)

Breakfast 368

some leftover cuban sandwich

lunch 232

chicken chili

dinner 232

chicken chili

snack 120

cereal dry

total 920

Not that I disapprove of it at all - it's just my thoughts about breakfast circle around cereal, grits, oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, waffles, etc.

Pork burgers with cabbage and red peppers...I'd be tasting that all day.  When I was playing football, our coach actually said cold, leftover pizza was a good choice for breakfast since it "had all the food groups".

I hear you about the blood sugar.  I've been off all of my meds for the last 3 months.  I don't ever want to have to go back to taking them.

I actually thought it was a typo, since you listed lunch as being eggs and coffee.  I figured you had swapped the order.

Alecto,

I wasn't being defensive, your "breakfast of champions" comment really made me laugh.

That was really the first time I posted my food here because I figured maybe people would assume I was following a fad diet.  My blood sugars have been way high for a long time and the standard ADA diet and meds was not getting the numbers down for me.  I don't know if you ever watch dLife on CNCB or not (sunday night at 7)...well it is a half hour show about living with diabetes and this is where I first saw this Dr. Berstein promote his low carb diet .  Most doctors won't endorse it for various reasons, but I got the book, tried the diet and impressed the hell out of my endo with the results.  We monitor my kidneys and do all the other blood work and all is improving.  I guess I just didn't want you to think I was some kind fad dieter.  I would so much rather eat breakfast type food in the morning but it just sends my blood sugar soaring.  I seem to tolerate more carbs later in the day though.  Doc says it has something to do with the dawn syndrome.

I am thinking maybe once I get more weight off I can slowly add some carbs but I want to reduce my meds first . You must be sooo thrilled to be off meds.  How much better for your body.  How much weight have you lost, how much to go?  How long have you been diabetic?  It helps to hear of other diabetics who are improving their health , it gives me hope.

kdh,

I keep my calories around 1200 or just a bit less, and I guess I don't have a problem getting them in with low carb because I am not afraid to add the fat.  I just make sure I eat the healthy fats.  No trans fats, I use olive oil, canola oil, and I'll use a 35 calorie pat of real butter and feel ok about it. I eat the leanest cuts of meat I can, I eat salmon, tuna and tilapia and lots of chicken. I have never had high cholestesrol so I just don't worry too much.  I will also add some walnuts and I fudge sometimes with my carb counting and add peanuts for a treat.( peanuts can be a trigger food for me so I have to be careful, I just can't seem to give them up though)  Nuts jump the calories quick.

I don't eat bread so I drink the psyillium husks stuff (I know I didn't spell that right) for extra fiber.  I eat mixed green salads and have spinach in my salads most days. I eat all veggies but the starchy ones.  I eat cheese in moderation( mostly low fat string cheese) and the 3 carb yogurts with a few blueberries I keep in the freezer. I drink alot of sugar free iced green tea I make myself and water. I drink coffee once or twice a day and for a treat I'll add some of that flavored sugar free creamer.  I sneak diet coke more than I should.  (My doc says they are bad because they worsen osteoporosis .)  It is harder for me to keep the carbs down than the calories but I sure feel better this way and my blood work is good so I am just gonna try to keep it up at least until I drop most of this extra weight.  If I need to make adjustments in the future I will .

I really appreciate this thread - I often find myself saying, "Are you sure you want to tell everyone that you ate THAT?" when faced with a temptation. That having been said - does anyone know what is going on with texmom - I haven't seen a post from her in several days. I hope everything is ok.
