AT&T Censoring the Internet?

Just heard from another forum that AT&T took a big step in censoring by blocking a popular site 4chan.

Basically, its an anime-freak and japan obsessed website (for those that don't know about it...which I would guess is a lot of people on this forum).

But still! Censoring the interwebs is a dangerous thing...and why anime-freaks? haha

Maybe some sort of parental security feature is on by default? And on the list of blocked sites is 4chan? Maybe call AT&T and ask to remove it, cause maybe it's turned on and off on their end?

Oh, its not that I am having trouble accessing the site. I don't even use AT&T for internet service (I dont think?), they are blocking 4chan though (apparently not through everything? Like I hear iphones can still access).

The issue isnt the site though. The issue is them censoring the internet for their users (who often don't have any other options for service). You know, the entire net neutrality thing...

On 4chan theres a misc forum where people will post pictures of like 14 year old girls posing in their rooms, naked, with their legs spread and then the poster will proceed to ask, "any1 no this gurl? gimme gimme moar."

Not to mention, the CHILD PORNOGRAPHY I've stumbled upon.

No, not just anime freaks.

SICK freaks.

That site deserves to be banned from life.

And I don't know what else sites they're blocking, but I'm sure theres at least a rational reason behind it.

No, I know, I was kinda questioning the article or the people with the problem.

I also heard 4chan is pretty bad, I've never been on it though. It seems... wrong.

Theres a lot lot worse out there. That site just seemed like teens playing around online....

Eh, I'm probably just scarred for life because the first time I ever saw the site, I was linked to it by someone and there was a biiig thread on child porn.

Don't know if its posted OFTEN, but hey, any site that posts a thread on child porn isn't cool, man.

To be fair, the article does state that only some of the site is being blocked.

I doubt it will last long, though.

Haven't seen any reports on why it was blocked in the first place, though.

Wow I applaud AT&T that is one discussing site! Please it is not anime for anime freaks! I AM ONE! that site was nasty and so were the people on it!

There is no real or valuable anime related topics or discussions on this site.

The parts that were anime were just plain dumb. Anon posters talking about stupid things.

This porn site does not have monitors - posters can post anonymously and they can upload explicit photos and gifs.

One more thing your so called anime freaks would post on real forums if they wanted to talk about their shows or go to sites like http://www.watchanimeon.com/ to watch streaming vids or go to dattebayo.com for legit anime torrents.

I dated a guy a while back who went on that site ALL the time.  I think it's gross and it should just be taken off of the internet.

There's lolicon on there too. They basically want to be weird and offensive I think. I don't know if this is technically considered censorship as it's being done by a corporation and not a government entity.

It's in that weird grey area where it's drawings of child pornography, not involving any actual children.

A) Gay porn - Don't be so christian....

B) Child Porn - Ok, actual pictures of children porn should be moderated and removed. Its about censorship. You might feel that what those people like is strange or sick or whatever else... but as long as they aren't harming anyone, its not your place to tell them what they can talk about or look at (or even do). I'm tired of the "christian mission" to force the world to follow their commands.... just because you dont agree with what someone does, it isnt grounds for you to step in and try to stop them (again, unless there is some victim that is in need of help....which, in the majority of these cases, there isnt).

 Oh, the christian thing was because...well... a GREAT amount of the US morality stems from christianity and their non-logic based development of what is right and wrong (along with their philosophy of converting the world to their point of view as part of their religion. While that philosophy is not as openly prevalent in the modern day teachings, there is still a VERY VERY strong remains of it from their history.)

And people ARE trying to stop people from "living out their sickest fantasies" (again, this seems to be laden with a judgemental tone... if you were to move one step beyond that *which many already have* it would instead move from being a passive judgement of those people and become a desire to stop and punish them).

Basically, the country continues to takes steps backwards in freedom from religious rule. This is simply another manifestation of that. I simply believe that we should be free of being forced to follow a non-logic based set of morality.

Of course by saying these things, you will assume these feelings come from a desire to practice such things. Apparently you have already made that leap (well, gay porn is a possibility, I'm bi,  but its a little tragic that its seen as deviant behaviour). Sadly, this is how these types of things go... as if no one would stand up for the rights of others unless they had a vested interest in the issue. That seems to be one of the greatest problems with our current system.... and one of the problems that keep many others from speaking out in defense of those being persecuted by the righteous force of the chistian majority.

Now, before you think that this is some baseless rant against religion, its not. These things are common FACTS about the history and current state of the country. It is impossible to deny that our morality is heavily based on christian teachings (if you doubt this, please do some research on the subject before you reply).

Read my previous post to see each of the 4 issues addressed and see if you can counter them with rational thought beyond "it seems icky". I'm afraid "it seems icky" just isnt an argument great enough to warrent you forcing your will onto others.

It is a sad day when freedoms are taken from people with no other reason than a differing view of what is "icky". Its an even more pathetic day when the people of our country see nothing wrong with it happening.....

Child porn is actually not allowed there (or anywhere else really...),  but they probably have a hard time moderating it.

4chan is gross, racist, misogynistic, and ignorant. It's full of fat bitter manchildren who go on there to act like pigs. Yep there is child porn posted on there, it's not tolerated but /b/ moves so quickly it's sometimes difficult to be moderated And that's just 4chan in general.

I dislike it, I think it's dumb that it was blocked by AT&T though. It's a place that really sholuldn't be visited in my opinion.

Oh and also any joke you may have heard of on the internet, Rick Roll, FAIL, lolcats, that all originated from 4chan. So they can come up with catchy things sometimes.
