August Weight Loss Challenge - GROUP CLOSED
The Challenge:
- Weigh in Fridays. (Beginning August 1st)
- There will be weekly challenges as well to help keep us motivated (example: Who can complete the most minutes of exercise?)
- Optional - Calculate the percentage of weight lost each Friday and include it in your weigh in post (this is so that the challenge is more fair since people have different amounts of weight to lose and it is much harder as you near your goal weight)
If you have any suggestions for weekly challenges, or improvements/additions to the challenge please PM me or post them so I can incorporate everyone's ideas.
So, who's in!?

I'd love to join in! Maybe a good challenge is what I need to give me my jumpstart!
I will be done with my July challenge by then. So this will be great.
Yes!! Yes!! I am in. However, will we be reminded (a whole lot can happen between now and August 1 !! :) ) before the challenge begins?
Also, we can chat before hand you know. Getting to know each other, sharing tips, helping each other stay motivated, etc. So don't be shy! Lol.
For challenge, how about incorporating additional exercise to your routine, such as an extra 1 mile walk, or 20 abs crunch, etc. Or maybe drink a certain amount of water (we can decide the amount). Just a thought.
BTW, what do you need from us in term of info? Percentage weight loss and weight?
I'd like to join please, will be off to Cyprus at the end of August so might struggle on the last 2 weigh ins but I'm sure I'll find an internet cafe out there to post my results, and this might just be the challenge I need to keep me away from the cocktails and true to my diet.
- Starting Weight: lbs
- Target weight loss: 20lbs (if you don't aim high how will you ever reach the stars)
- August 1st weight loss to date: lbs = %
- August 8th weight loss to date: lbs = %
- August 15th weight loss to date: lbs = %
- August 22nd weight loss to date: lbs = %
- August 29th weight loss to date: lbs = %
Hello! I would also like to join! I am ready for a challenge!
yeah im up for this!! bring it on :)
(edited 08/08/08 to show weight)
Everything makes sense. I'm ready to go.
Oh I am so there! Count me in, please! Actually, this should be quite a challenge for me to start with at least because I have a colonoscopy scheduled July 30, which means I'll be nice and cleaned out when I start. And THAT means I'll probably gain a bit at first as my body goes back to 'normal'... (truth is, I'm interested in seeing how much 'weight' I lose when I do the colyte/cleaner thing to clean out my intestines.
either way I'm up for the challenge! Here are my numbers as of 7/24/08
- Height: 5' 6"
- Bust: 43
- Chest: 37
- Waist: 39
- Hips: 44
- Midway: 44
- Thighs: 24
- Knees: 16.5
- Calves: 15
- Upper Arm: 14
- Forearms: 10

sounds like a plan!! count me in too :)
i am in!!
Dude, I am so totally in! Glad I finally found a challenge not already going on or closed!!! So I guess that I'm lucky #13?
The biggest challenge here is for me to figure out how to participate with all this messaging, etc. . . . Then there's the percentage thing. I'm really happy for the invite and will enjoy this challenge. There are just too many opportunities to ignore my diet and exercise as the extended family will be together a couple of weeks in August. History says we'll be stressing each other out and eating too much. This is the motiviation I am looking for to change those patterns. Thanks!
Or if you guys wanted to we could just scrap the percentage thing all together. I don't really care, it's up to you guys. I just thought that it would make the challenge more fair.
Let me know. :)
I agree that posting the percentage of weight loss would be a more fair calculation. If someone doesn't understand how to do the calculation, maybe it should be optional to post and perhaps another member could follow up with an additional post and give them the percentage.
I believe that this calculation should work:
( Original Weight minus New Weight ) divided by Original Weight
So, if you originally were 200 lbs and are now 150.
(200 - 150) / 200 = 50 / 200 = .25 = 25% weight loss
**Obviously one wouldn't lose 50 pounds in a week, however; I just used these numbers for an easier calculation.
count me in. I was looking for a Fri weigh in challenge!
