I was reading Woman's World, and one page, they said the average bra size in America was 34D. Is it just me, or does that seem a little crazy? 34D is supermodel proportions, not of the average woman. What do you guys think?

Well they also say a lot of us ladies are wearing the wrong size, me included so it's probably not accurate.

Does anyone know of a good site to work out bra size? I'm really confused 'cos I always thought I was a 34B, I have quite a small upper body but all the online calculators tell me to wear a 36A, but I'm only a UK size 12 on the top and bottom so surely that can't be right as my under bust meaurement is only about 31"?

i'm like two sizes up i'm a 38 D

my bra size changes depending on the brand! ive just turned 17 and id say my average was 34DD. id of said 34 c was more average from magazines etc. but the 34 is probs right, most of the people i know are 34 back size. i love my boobs and so does my boyf ;) id think about getting them bigger! never smaller!!!

Gee waley_bean, not a lot of responses from the ladies out there.  Frown

My approach would be to follow the directions on 4 or more sites and go with the most common result.  I'd try Fredericks, V.S. and at least a couple other sites belonging to department stores.  You're in the UK?  Still, you can access Macys, JC Penney and others online.  All of these places and many more have directions for measuring ... and the directions do vary from company to company.

Ha!  As a guy I'd tend to agree with you ... but you might change your mind as you get older.  At 17, you still have some filling out to do and if you are struggling with weight, especially decades from now, you might be in a position where a reduction is the way to go. Wink

I've seen good reductions and at least one very bad one.  They can make sense depending, depending, depending ...

Ok this is what you do

With no clothes on measure right under breast against ribs with snug tape measure.  If the number is under 33 inches add 5 inches if over 33 inches add 3 rounding to even number.  This equals band size.

So on me I measure 29 inches add 5 gives me a band of 34

now for cup again with nothing on measure across fullest part of breast but not to snug.

now using this number subtract your first number without added inches this will give you cup size.

So on me I measure 33 inches  33-29=3 1 inch/cup so Im a C cup

I measure 34C

I hope this helps

spuckine1, that's what I'd call the 'standard' directions ... which may not work for all women (including whaley_bean).

I think she was hoping for a site that is more thorough and or reliable ... but I don't know how someone could judge which directions were best among the slightly different methods.  If it were me, I'd visit VS, Fredericks and at least 2 or 3 department store sites.  Follow all the directions to the letter for each ... then take the size that most often comes up.  Basically, it's playing the averages. Undecided

I used to work with a lot of young women in the outdoors doing environmental damage remediation. It gets hot out there doing that and one of the first things that happens is the bra goes and on goes a tank top, most with a shelf bra. It is too hot and dusty to mess around with padding or anything.

I am between an A and a B cup. and I would say that most of the women who worked with me, were at or below that range. Of course, lots of them were vegies of one sort or another and most did not have children.

Once we have a child nursing then things can change. I feel sorry for the poor girls lugging around D or DDs or more.

Hala

feel sorry for them? why? its really not so bad ;)

I'm the "average" bra size I reckon. 34 D. and it fits my body. I've never once felt bad about having boobs and hips. why should I? I don't consider myself fat nor do I consider myself skinny. the only thing I don't like about my shape is that the breast size is so common. I can never find pretty or dainty bras in a 34 D unless I go to VS and then its so expensive. its a bummer :/

Lauren,

You're right ... curves are not that bad. Wink

But I think it's too much to ask for a 'dainty' piece of clothing to deal with "D" cups or larger.

If you like VS, try shopping on-line.  E-tailers such as VS and others like onehaynesplace.com that carry Bali are often having sales.  Only drawback (other than the obvious inability to try things on) is that colors are often limited when the items finally go on sale/clearance.

In America, maybe, but worldwide its a B cup.

Nope you're not crazy, but it is the average bra size. Im 5'2 with a 36D breast. A Dcup is not that small, but isn't that big. You have to remember the average woman is a size 12-16, and is 5'2-5'7. So it make sense. Plus, most women wear the wrong size bra {I had to go find mine lol}.

34B - a tiny bit bigger atm because I'm carrying more weight than usual. ^_^ I feel small, haha.

I'm 34B also.  And most of the people I am friends with are C or smaller.

The last bit of information I'v eheard a 36D bra was average I'm not sure if that  has changed from 3 years ago but thats what i heard this year.

Also you have to take into consideration that so many women are wearing the wrong size bra.

But I can say speaking as someone who wears a 34/36 D it's hard as heck to find them when the Semi Annual sale at Victorias secret starts :-)

Yes, that's the problem with this discussion ... women post their size ... but then there is the statistic that most women are wearing the wrong bra. (60-80% depending on the survey cited) so aren't the posters just as likely to post an incorrect number?

And this site is called "Calorie Count" ... don't you think weight conscious women would tend to be larger than the average?

And even with the surveys taken, do they count women with implants?  That will certainly pad the statistic some. <-- pun intended. Wink  What about he sample population ... is it random or were the measurements taken at a weight loss clinic where people are measured before and after to document results?

And even gauging what is the most common by judging what's available in stores as their inventory is their best guess at what women are wearing and they don't order the same number of every size.

The only way to know for sure would be to see a real medical study done where at least a thousand women were measured randomly.Maybe some place like WebMD or such ...

And oh, speaking of ordering on-line, VS is having free shipping today and onehanesplace.com has a coupon code for 20% off $100, 15% off 75 or $10% off $50. it's: 472389  Money mouth

Happy hunting! Laughing

I'm a little wee A cup over here.

I do the "where's the smallest bra in this place?" kind of lingerie shopping.

 I'm in the A cup club too. I'm a 32A.

I just bought a $50 bra from Victorias secret to make them bigger though. It claims to make you look 2 sizes bigger instantly. When my fiance found out I spent $50 on the bra, he just looked at me and said "you don't see me buying underwear that makes my junk look 2 sizes bigger".

Anyway, the point of that little veering off course, is that it really works!
