They're a tad high in calories. You could combine it with a sushi roll or a salad so you still get the yummy avacado, but only eat one instead of 2 or 3.
Funny you ask this b/c I've been craving avocados too!! I make sure that I set aside the calories for one avocados and a handful of chips to enjoy them with. But they do take a big portion of my calories for the day. I've always been confused about avocados and their health benefit. I know they're high in the "good" fat, but don't know exactly what that means for diet purposes... thanks for asking this question!!!
Avocados are also high in saturated fat, which is not the good kind. They're one of the only vegetables that has any. No reason not to eat them but, you know, don't go overboard.
Edit - for what it's worth, I should correct myself that an avocado is technically a fruit and not a vegetable. :-)

Avacado is a healthy fat but you should really have no more than 1/8 of the avacado each time.
Avocodo is really good for you and it is a good fat (not saturated!).
1/3 of an Avocado is a serving, but you can have more as long as you have the cals.

Here's nutritional information from The World's Healthiest Foods website. There's a lot of information, but this really popped out at me.
"Promote Hearth Health
Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol. In one study of people with moderately high cholesterol levels, individuals who ate a diet high in avocados showed clear health improvements. After seven days on the diet that included avocados, they had significant decreases in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, along with an 11% increase in health promoting HDL cholesterol."
That's not quite accurate about the fat in avocados being the "bad" kind. Give me a minute to find a link to an article that explains all the different kind of fat and what they do. I'll edit and add it to this post.

Here is C-C's nutritional information for a single California avocado. One fruit has nearly 4g of saturated fat. Saturated fat increases your LDL cholesterol and is BAD! The same avocado also has 17g of monounsaturated fat, which lowers your LDL and increases your HDL and is good.
Again, I'm not saying don't eat them ... just be moderate!
Edit - I got HDL and LDL backwards ... edited to fix. ;-)

god you guys are good
Avocado has been one of my saviors since I started dieting!! I put 1/8th of an avocado in sandwiches, burritos, and with eggs instead of cheese - 35 calories instead of 100!
