I want to add more healthy fats into my diet.  I can go overboard with a bag of nuts, but can't really do that with an avocado, which I still like.  Any ideas for snacks (no small salad or guac recipes either).  Thanks!

Avocados are pretty high in calories compared to most veggies (140 for half of a medium one), but when I eat them I pretty much just eat them by themselves (I love them), or put a slice or two on a sandwich instead of mayo.  Have you tried Flax seed?  It has a polyunsaturated fat that's very high in Omega-3's...I put two tbsps in my oatmeal every morning.  It has 90 calories per serving, and like the avocado, it must be consumed in moderation :)  Fish is a good source of Omega-3's too.  Oh and you could definitely try Wheat Germ.  I hope this helps :)

Half an avocado mashed up on a piece of toast with black pepper is my favourite avocado snack

Through some shrimps in with it and some low fat dressing for a yummy larger snack.  Gives you some good omega's too.

I add avacada to chicken wraps with tomatoe onion and tzatziki

Make a creamy avocado salad dressing.  Mash it with lemon juice, salt, pepper and maybe a dash of hot sauce, then thin it out with some fat free plain yogurt.  Toss your salad in it.

Avocado is great with crackers. If that is too many calories, pairing it with crunchy veggies like celery would work, too, although I do like that carby goodness. Honestly, though, I can even eat avocados plain with lime juice and salt, and I'll put them on top of anything, from sandwiches to salads, cottage cheese, wraps of all kinds, cooked portions of meat, and some soups. Basically, anywhere I'd like a bit of creamy texture. (I've even had avocado milk shakes and avocado ice cream, but I'm sure that's not the kind of snack you're going for.)

Oh man, now I want an avocado...

I tried this one from a clean eating mag yesterday

2 small whole wheat flax tortilla (6 inches)

1/4 cup salsa

1/4 avocada

3-4 oz chicken

1/4 cup black beans (low sodium)

you can add low fat cheese if you want but I thought it tasted great without it. I added some low sodium corn kernels too.

chrush avocado and mix with salsa, lay on tortilla, crush black beans rinsed and drained, crush slightly add to tortilla, add salsa and chicken and you're done.

Avacado salsa with fish or chicken is delicious: dice avacado, mango, red pepper, red onion, finely mince some jalepeno pepper, add a splach of lime juice and some chopped cilantro, s&p to taste.

You can also switch out the mango for tomato if you don't like fruity salsa.

I love Avocado, they are good on sandwiches or added to tacos. I like to just make an avocado burrito with cheese.  I think I mostly eat them with grated garlic on toast or taco shells or chips, although that may be to close to gauc for you.  I can't stand gauc with cilantro and tomato though, if it was prepared that way for you before then you might want to try it a without.

I don't see how anyone could NOT love avocado....yummy! I'm a big contrast person when it comes to meals or snacks. Try half and avocado (salted of course :-) with crunchy carrots or sugar snap peas. Might be weird but I like it. I love the idea of mashed avocado on toast or with cottage cheese.

For a year I lived in an avocado growing region.  The favorite way to eat them there was on an open face sandwich of toasted bread, simply sliced with a sprinkle of salt and a squeeze of lemon juice.  I got to really like that treat.  Also, the fruits we got were tree ripened, and there is a difference.

A recent yummy discovery I made was guacamole-and-roasted-red-pepper-on-wholegrai n-toast.  I had bought a giant jar of roasted red peppers and was looking for ways to use them and stumbled upon this combo by accident.  It tastes AMAZING!!!  So yummy!  Unfortunately, the store that sells the cheap giant jars of roasted red peppers is in a different city, or I'd be living off them all summer.  You could probably use avocado slices instead of the guacamole.

This will double your healthy fats- I use it as a mushroom filling. I make a portobello burger by grinding up almonds into a course powder (can use blender, coffee grinder, proccessor) and mash in about 1/2 an avocado or more if you like with some lemon juice, salt pepper or whatever spices you want. Then stuff a portobello mushroom cap with it and roast it in the oven. You can brush the mushroom with olive oil too. Then I put the whole thing on a hamburger bun with whatever usual burger toppings you like.

It is OMFG AMAZING!!!!!!

that sounds soooooo fantastic, I wish I had the skill to make it! :)

Thanks! it doesnt take much work or skill at all. Just a blender! I'm lactose intolerant so I've begun experimenting with different nut "cheeses" and cream sauces made with nuts too.

Another good way to use avocados is in fruit smoothies, or in chocolate pudding!

It's really really good, and a dessert you can actually feel really healthy about eating :)

You could make california rolls (sushi) or veggie sushi rolls with avocado pieces. I'm a big sushi fan and 6-8 pieces of sushi for lunch always seems to hit the spot. The california rolls are avocado, crab meat and cucumber rolled with rice, or if you're not in to fish, you can just do veggies like carrots, cucumber and avocado rolled into the rice.

Also, avocado and cucumber sandwiches are amazing too. Just load up some sandwich bread with cucumbers and salt and pepper, and mash the avocado and use it as a substitute for mayo. :)

Holy cow that looks like the best thing in the entire world!  If those were sitting in front of me they would be a mortal weakness.   I wouldn't be able to eat just one serving!
