I LOVE avocados!

I just only eat a half at a time to keep it to 120 cals.

So... how do I save the other half without it browning??

I end up throwing it away because the brown eeks me out!

Leave the skin on and the pit in.  Eat it the next day, scraping off any brown-ness on the surface.

Actually, all you need to do is rub a bit of lemon juice on the exposed part. The juice prevents browning.

(edit: I used lime juice once... didn't work as well).

I love avocados too!!!  I just leave the skin and pit on like the first reply said but lemon juice works too!

super! now i can't wait to go buy some more! :D

thanks!

i put lemon juice in guacamole, so that will probably work

Actually I prefer using lime juice. It just tastes better with Tex-Mex. My favorite guacamole has lots of lime juice.

Just a matter of taste.

I did an accidental experiment one time.  I use those vacuum seal bags that are made by Ziploc.  I put half of the acacado in, pulled the air out with the hand pump and it got knocked into the back of the refrigerator by nosey roommate.  I found it two weeks later; fresh as the day I originally sealed it.  You can get this set up in the same aisle as the foil and baggies.  The whole set up is around $6.00 at Walmart.  Reynolds also makes a version but the pump is battery operated and costs twice as much to purchase.  I've also read about mechanical failures with them as well.  (I have a nice vacuum sealer from Tillia, but don't use it because idiot boy, roommate ruins the bags.  Can't seem to figure out what "open this end" means. Yell

The lemon or lime works well too.  Btw, geniuswaitress, I think the "lime" suggestion makes a whole lot of sense.

Avocado + lime is a great flavour combo. I was just suggesting that lemon juice worked better to prevent browning than lime juice, in my experience. When I rubbed lime juice on an exposed avocado, it browned faster than when I rub it with lemon.

just eat it, it's ripe and tate better. I cut my avocados just to let them brown before i use them.
