Hi everyone. I'm new here. I just wanted to get some advice. OK, so my weakness is Dr Pepper and sweets, in mass. What do y'all do when those craving hit? How in the world do you defeat them? I'm at 190 now and want to hit 130 by Oct 09 when my new daughter turns one.

dafojtik,
Of course its different for everyone, but works for me is firstly Diet Dr Pepper.. not as great .. but at least an option.
To avoid sweets (and binging of sweets), i give myself 200 calories per day of 'sweets'.. if i do this every day, sometimes in 2 100 calorie snacks, i tend to be ok.
If by the end of the night i am hungry for something, i found some (weird i know) that works for me. I grab 3 egg whites, put them in a bowl with 2 spoonfuls of splenda mixed in, i heat it up for 2 minutes until its white and fluffy, i then put a tiny bit more splenda on top as well as some cinnamon. The whole thing is about 60 calories at most, and I tell myself i'm eating a sweetish mashmallow type treat. its big too with a glass of water, i go to bed really full.
I agree with the above poster. It's not so much about not having those cravings, but finding substitutes for them.
Diet soda may taste bland to you at first, but after a while you will get used to it and may actually enjoy it.
Ice cream is my huge downfall, but I do not deprive myself. I leave room in my calorie count to have a bowl. If you have issues with self control around your favorite snacks, then you simply have to cut them out of your diet, or allow it as a rare treat.
Finding substitutes that work can be kind of fun. Good luck.

when i first started drinking diet sodas i squeezed a little lime (or lemon) in them. made world of difference in the taste and eventually i was even able to stop that.
do allow yourself some of your pleasure foods occationally and that should help keep you from feeling too deprived.
The cherry vanilla diet dr. pepper is actually pretty sweet (tasting, that is), so you might try that first before switching to plain diet dr. pepper... also, something I do to avoid eating too many sweets... if I want a cookie, cake, something, I tell myself I can have a small portion AFTER I eat a fruit or veggie. That way I am a little fuller from eating something healthy first and I still get to have a little treat... totally mental, I know, but hey, it works!!! :-)
I am a sugarholic (as I call myself). For me, I keep fruit around. So, when I get a sweets craving, I reach for that instead of candy. I also don't drink soda on a regular basis anymore, so that really helps me. If you can start by replacing 1 soda a day with water, and wean yourself off of it slowly, you'll feel much better in the long run. GOod Luck!
For the first 3 months I had to say no to all sweets (especially chocolate) being in the house because I couldn't eat just a little -- I'd eat the whole package of oreos, donuts, whatever. Then I discovered Baskin Robbins sugar free hard candy -- cookies and cream (sort of an oreo) and allow myself one after lunch, and one mid-afternoon. That has helped TREMENDOUSLY. It has kept me from raiding the kids' halloween candy!
I like the idea from lizzie6580 of allowing a bit of sweet AFTER veggies. My 'treat' is to have a diet pepsi with lunch IF I have had 2 bottles of water during the morning.
Good Luck!
