How do I avoid emotional eating????

Quote  |  Reply

I am super depressed today. I've got alot of life stress going on. Work seems to be the only thing going well today. I could eat pizza, ice cream, pancakes, candy bars- anything I know that is not diet friendly. How do I avoid emotional eating? Cry

Resolve the cause of the stress.   Get angry with the thing that's causing the problem.  Deal with it directly rather than side-stepping it and thinking that eating something will help.   Avoidance never improved anything.   Food's nice to eat, tastes great and gives you a temporary lift but it doesn't fix the cause of the stress....   Hope you haven't got too many pizzas and candy-bars handy.. that's a good way to avoid comfort eating.

If you end up eating, try pigging out on something healthy instead.  No-one ever comfort eats apples and carrots, have you ever noticed that?  LOL!

I TOTALLY understand where you are and how you feel!  I'm trying hard to conquer the same bad habit.  I think sometimes it help to do something you enjoy that doesn't involve food.  Get out and go shopping; just don't hit the Star Bucks or Cold Stone Creamery; OR  you could work on putting some old photos away, or maybe reading a book you've been meaning to get to. Sometimes, just getting out to get a pedicure gives me a boost.  It makes me feel better and gets my mind off of food.  If I could afford to get a pedicure every other day, I would.

That still replaces dealing with the issues at hand with filling up. Avoiding negative emotions by stuffing yourself full of ANY kind of food is psychologically unhealthy, whether the food of choice is apples or jelly beans.

The answer is...do what makes you happy! Find time to have a bubble bath with essential oils. Burn some incense and read a book. Do whatever makes you truly feel good inside. If you're happy then you probably wont dive for those double chocolate chip cookies. I don't know if that helps you but when I do remember this it does help me. Good luck.

do yoga - get yourself centered and mindful :)

trust me, i know, easier said than done
