This is single-handedly hurting my diet. I've been able to conquer almost every other pitfall (still can't get enough sleep or eliminate enough stress). The weekend arrives, and suddenly I go off track and eat as if the apocalypse were approaching.
any advice?
Sleep and stress are absolute killers! I bet if you could get those handled, the weekends wouldn't be so awful! It sounds like what you are doing is trying to use food to help you relax on the weekends.
For me, I have to have a plan for the weekend. I have to have healthy foods on hand to eat when we decide to stop and have a quick lunch. I have to have plenty of healthy snacks. And I have to limit the amount of junk food that is in the house, or we all gravitate toward that!
And definitely - find NON-FOOD things that help you relax!!
thanks for the reply. I should have added that i have many healthy foods on hand, but the problem i have is portion control. on weekends, i can overeat on even the healthiest item, hungry or not.
true, i might be using food as a means of stress relief, which is counter-intuitive, since gaining more weight will stress me out even more.
When I start overeating (and I do it all the time), what really helps me is to get away from the food. Keep busy doing something, out of the house if possible. My overeating is typically a combination of stress, fatigue, and boredom, and keeping myself busy helps combat all of those.
Good luck!
My biggest problem on the weekend is going out to eat. Ever noticed how when getting together with friends it's always "let's go out to eat" or "let's get drinks" this can really set my diet back. I do great all week and then kick myslef for ruining my headway over the weekend. I try to make smart decisions but I do get into that weekend mentality of eating with out thinking. I stop counting calories because I'm too "busy" and I end up eating un-healthy things because I'm already out and about and need lunch and the fatty sandwich shop is the closest thing. I'm not sure how to fic this problem. Also I am always exhausted by the time the weekend comes and don't feel like cooking which always makes me grab the easiest foods around which are usually not the healthiest. I think getting away from food and getting out- going on a walk or finding activities that don't involve food might be the key but I'm still trying to figure this one out myself.
yes, after work at home and on the weekends are my most challenging times. At home after work I found I have to stay away from the kitchen ie. upstairs.
I eat out alot so i look for things on the menue like fish entrees, steak...i dont eat chicken out much because I fix that at home. I always ask for veggies instead of a starchy side...
Also, if I know in advance I look the restaurant up online and check calories.

My biggest problems occur when I upset my weekly routine. since the weekends mean i have free time, and different things to do, all sorts of things slide---i'll forget breakfast because I was doing laundry, or get wrapped up in something, then realize i'm starving. I'll forget to drink water, and i won't have dance class. Worse yet, i'll be "cleaning out the fridge" and somehow feel obligated to eat some of the food instead of "waste it" (i've yet to master not buying too much).
