That awful realisation that your summer clothes don't fit anymore...
So I guess the above is something that a lot of us have been through. My summer clothes were bought when I was at my lowest weight so I kind of expected that they wouldn't fit now how they did then. Guess I wasn't prepared for how bad they would look - I know in the eighteen months I have gained about 15 pounds, and some tops have got a little more clingy on the belly which I hate, but until now, I have tried to ignore it. But seeing my once-toned tummy bulging over all my skirts made me feel really ashamed.
I am only 5ft and I carry most of my extra weight on my hips and thighs - I take a size 12 bottom, but can be an 8-10 on top depending on the shop.
Have just started running but my pace isn't very good as I still get out of breath so easily. Combining that 3 times a week with some work on my legs and abs, but am aware until I shift the excess weight, all the toning won't really help - am I right?
Am feeling really depressed about it all, and hoping this site will get me on the right path to getting a bit more in shape again.

Hey, here's the upside - fifteen pounds isn't a lot to lose, and you're acknowledging that you're uncomfortable and are taking steps to change and lose the weight, that's an accomplishment in itself. Stick to it, because it's the best thing you can do for yourself.
age, current weight and goal weight all play into this too.
You were just eating to much and now your stomach takes a lot of food to fill it. However you where not filling it with good well balanced diet to include wholesome, low calorie, high nutrient and fiber foods.
Without the balanced diet and activity to burn the calories you have suddenly realized you are gaining weight, where as in the past you would not.
These few pounds you want lose may be difficult but if you would go for lower volume of food, lower calories, take in high nutrient and high fibre foods plus do some moderate exercise, you should be able to do it.
Use the CC data base, start a diary and keep a closer eye on the scales.
Go for it...you can do it!
I dunno if it'll make you feel any better, hon, but none of MY summer stuff is fitting, either... And some of the shirts were bought (as) maternity clothes! (And let me tell ya, that's SO depressing it's hard to think about!)
Hang in there, hon. You can do this! That 15 could be gone way before the summer is out. Good luck. And grats on running. (Short-of-breathness aside, isn't it amazing??) I'm starting week 2 of the c25k and am REALLY excited about it.
*Hugs*
Don't beat yourself up about it. If you do, you'll be too negative to make progress. Think of how great it will be to have those summer clothes fit and look better than ever from eating a little less and toning up!
Anyone can do it. It just takes effort! I'm 15 pounds down and hope to lose 15 more by august or fall.
SUMMER stuff???
I have an entire closet full of clothes that do not fit. Summer, fall, winter, spring. Congrats for making it through 3 seasons without noticing! :D
I sit in my closet crying for 15 minutes almost every morning while trying to get ready for work. That’s why I end up throwing on some work out clothes and going in early to the gym. I guess being miserable is my motivation.
hey thanks for the encouragement you guys, I really appreciate it. I am so glad it's not just me feeling like this. Am feeling a bit more motivated from what you have said. I guess it's better to try and do something about the situation now than go on the way i am doing....
thanks again ![]()
I have the same problem, but it's not just the shirts are a little more clingy or that there is some chub hanging over the tops of the pants I can't even get the pants past mid thigh and there is atleast an inch missing before any of my blouses will even think of buttoning together lol.
I kept wearing my jeans-which I purchased at a low weight--even though I gained 14 pounds. They were REALLY tight on the thighs and butt--the metal button on the waist--POPPED off.
I was sad about the poor quality of the jean--really-they should make a stronger button:(
(I wore them to remind me to eat less--cause they were tight.)
I know how you are feeling. BUT just look foward to when you do fit those clothes again and how amazing you will look in them!!! You've been there before, you can and WILL get back there. You're doing the right thing getting back on track and soon your hard work will pay off. Best of luck!
Crazydiamondchrysalis,
Thank you for your post on here. I thought I was the only one sitting in my closet every morning, for up to an hour, upset because nothing fits any more and feeling like I cannot leave the house. My husband thinks I'm crazy, I'm always late for work, it's good to hear I'm not the only one!
I am on the opposite end of the spectrum which you may say is a lot better but its still friggin costly and annoying.
Nearly everything in my wardrobe balloons on me due to my weightloss and I can't afford to replace my entire wardrobe so I am wearing blouses that are 2 sizes too large and make me look like I haven't lost a thing and are not in the least flattering - not mention that when it blew hard on my walk home last night my shirt turned into a sail and flashed the oncoming traffic!
I hate shopping and don't have a lot of spare money so this summer is going to be one of badly fitting clothing, sadly the baggy look isn't the rage this summer lol
