This sounds like a lot of fun! I'm due May 5th, 2010. I'm really worried about weight gain during pregnancy. I lost all my motivation to eat healthy almost a year ago and I'm so scared to end up at 300 pounds!
Not pregnant, but I wanted to wish both of you congratulations! I hope you both have wonderful and safe pregnancies!
Hey! I'll join too. My due date is (I think) May 5th, but I'm not exactly sure...
I mentionned on another thread that I am having a hard time transitioning from weightloss mode to maintainance (and then gaining!) mode. I am not a very regular eater - I go long periods without eating anything, and I know that is really bad for me, especially now.
I am also super paranoid about a miscarriage. I know there's nothing really you can do, other than the obvious, don't smoke, don't drink, don't overdo the coffee, but I am thinking about it contstantly.
Are you guys working out? So far I've kept my workout schedule the same - lifting weights 3x per week, and cardio once or twice. (I'm the cross country coach at the school I work at, so that's the extent of my cardio!)
Hve you guys told anyone? I gave in and told my mom, but that's it.
I told my Mom, Dad, sister, her husband and two best friends. I figure, if something bad happens, they will have to be told anyway, so why prolong the secrecy. My Mom was shocked when I told her as back in her day you told no one until 8-12 weeks along.
I am also going to continue working out. I haven't done any exercise since getting the positive on the preg test, just because I have been so busy. But I definitely need to get back into my routine. I will probably stop some parts of my exercise in 4-8 weeks though.
Congrats everyone, so good to have some pregnancy "sisters"!
Hi Ladies,
I'm due Apr. 29th. This is my second baby and this time I want to avoid all the pitfalls I had the first time around. I did really well the first 5.5 months - Jazzercised 3X a week and felt great. Then the baby shifted and I ended up with syatica and I had to quit exercising. Between that and giving in to cravings (Pints of Ben & Jerry's anyone?) I gained a total of 55 lbs.
I was doing Weight Watchers but quit last week. They won't let you continue the program while pregnant. So my thought was to log calories here based on my Doctor's recommendation. Do any of you have a plan to stay healthy and keep the weight off?
I really like the idea of this thread so that we can support each other all the way through. Best of luck and talk soon. :)
Hi all,
I am due with my first on April 21st! I have told my mom and my parents in law, as well as my brother and sister in law. We were supposed to go on a vacation with my mum, bro and sis in law and decided against it so we had to tell them.
I am also worried about weight gain during pregnancy, esp since I have been feeling SOOOOOOOOOOOO hungry and tired the past few weeks! I stopped exercising as regularly as I used to mostly because August was crazy, with my mum visiting. But I am getting back now.
Whats your daily maintenance calories like? I have a lot of trouble staying within maintenance as I am SO hungry all the time. Exercise is one way to make a better fit between intake and expenditure.
I know how you feel. I am starving about 90% of my waking hours. Seriously, I just ate lunch (kinda late) and I am already ravenous. At first I wasn't hungry at all, but now I can't believe it!
I can eat between 1750 - 1850 on maintainance, if I work out a bit. Not alot. :( But I am starting to find that eating is making me nauseous.
Have you given up coffee? I have decided that I can have 1 a day, for now, but I might increase it to 2 a day once the first trimester is over.
I just went back-to-school shopping, and I made sure everything was long and stretchy!
I understand one cup is fine, supposedly anything less than 150 mg of caffeine a day. I however am trying to avoid it, but it's tough - caffeine is everywhere. I have either decaf coffee or half-caff if no decaf is available. Once I get past 1st trimester I might do one cup a day, or one half-caff a day. I had a diet coke yesterday but I am also trying to avoid artificial sweeteners. Basically my motto for artificial sweeteners and caffeine is that if there is a healthier alternative I will take it. If not, no biggie, I will not beat myself up! I do however plan to eat deli meat. It's just not something I can give up. It's a food staple. And my doctor said it is only really a concern where you may get bad deli meat. Otherwise it's not an issue beyond the salt content.
There are so many things that you 'hear' you need to avoid, it's kind of crazy. Actually, my dad is a GP. His advice: live your life as normal, just don't smoke, don't drink (very much - he is of the school that feels that a half glass of wine here or there in the 2nd and 3rd trimester is ok, although this is highly controversial, obviously, so he doesn't recommend it to his 'real' patients), and only take tylenol (no other otc pain meds).
But is is so hard when you hear of all the things you shouldn't do! I can't help having a mildly panicked feeling about whether I'm doing something wrong or not.
I agree about the deli meat - especially if it is freshly sliced, I think it is ok. However, here in Canada we recently had a huge listeria scare from people eating packaged bologna from a major, national, manufacturer - a few people died. The problem was the factories weren't cleaning their slicers well enough, and the listeria was lingering deep in the machinery, and then growing on the meat as it sat in the stores. So I'm sticking to freshly sliced stuff from stores I know and trust. But I barely eat that stuff anyway. Mostly proscuitto - but can I even eat that? Ack!
Yeah, my maintenance tends to be around 2000 when I dont exercise and 2200-2500 when I do. ( I am 5'8").
Since I dont eat a lot of deli meat, its not a big deal for me. I do have a cup of coffee in the morning, but thats about it. Since I am prone to anxiety and insomnia, I decided that it was probably good anyway to limit the coffee. Cant do without the one cup though!
Hows it going on the sleep front? I had really bad insomnia the first month, but its beginning to get better now. I find a short 10 minute nap in the middle of the day helps a lot with energy levels.
I live for Prosciutto but since it's raw I am pretty sure we cannot eat it :'(
There is such a thing as cooked prosciutto (prosciutto cotto)...it's not nearly as good as prosciutto crudo (raw), but it is fairly tasty.
I think that is just ham, right? I love it too, but agree it's not as good. Nothing compares to Prosciutto di Parma.
More or less...but I will say that the good stuff from Italy is MUCH better than regular old ham in the US. Not sure why, but I think it's probably the aging process that they do to it in Italy.
I figured as much... Boo!
NYC!!! I didn't know you were pregnant! Congrats!
I'll join your group!! My last couple of periods have been off as well as my ovulation cycle so I'm actually kind of shocked that I was able to get pregnant. But we were trying, so we are thrilled. Because of that, I don't know how far along I am. I could be as far as 7 weeks or as little as 3 weeks. I'll know on the 23rd when I go for my first real OB appointment.
Regardless, my due date should be around April or May. My nausea is quite bad, and has been for over a week so I think I might be closer to the 7 week mark. I'm having a hard time eating much. It's not coming back up, but it always feels like it's going to. So food doesn't sound very good to me, but food is the only thing that seems to keep the nausea at bay. And greasy things don't sound good to me, but when I eat them they seem to make my stomach feel better. Weird, eh?
Congrats Peach, how about that!!!?!! Awesome ...
I will have my first ultrasound next week at 6 weeks. Since the last pregnancy was a miscarriage this ultrasound will be very important. I will keep you all posted!
Blood work tomorrow to check for progesterone etc.
Hi everyone! I'll be joining you too. Looks like I'm due on May 18th.
This will be my 3rd child, and I am soooo excited!:)
I hope we can be a good support for each other in the weight department. I am currently eating around 1700 calories a day. I will increase it to 1900 soon. I'm taking it slowly because I have stopped all exercise due to the high-risk nature of my pregnancies, so I don't want to increase my calories too much yet.
Anyway, I wish you all a happy and healthy 9 months!!!:)
NYCGirl, Hope it went well with the U/S. Thinking of you!
Congratulations Moms!
Non-mom here but I love to support the moms-to-be. I'm an April Baby myself as are my 4 siblings lol. Maybe one of your little one's will come on April 26th ![]()
