Hi everyone and congratulations! I just found out this morning that I'm pregnant and due around May 15ish.

I have a 4 (almost 5) year old and I gained WAAAAY too much weight while preg with him. When I started here at cc back in May I weighed 207lbs. I'm down to 177 now and I have no idea how much I should be eating calorie wise.

I go to a gym 3-4 times a week and am eating around 1550 cals a day. I'm already eating every 2-3 hours and not sure how to up my cals to maintanence.

Should I add our names and due dates to the beginning of the thread?

Thanks for the concern about the u/s, but it's not til next Wednesday actually. I will keep you posted. I had bloodwork done but no results yet. I am waiting with baited breath as my first pregnancy in April/May ended up in miscarriage.

jabud08, if you want to increase your cals but already think you are eating enough food try to make some food choices which are more calorie dense than what you are already eating. A handful of almonds can be about 150 cals, a tall glass of milk about 100 cals, some avocado, a few slices of whole grain bread with a tablespoon of PB, etc. Add an apple, banana etc.

How is everyone doing?

Tired?  Sick?

I just put the "What to Expect" app on my iphone... fun!

Have you bought any pregnancy books, or are you waiting for a bit?

Hi everyone! Yeah, I am SO TIRED.....have been fairly lucky on the MS front though- nausea from time to time but no throwing up. My tummy tends to alternate between feeling fine and a little queasy, but appetite is great.

I try and get in a ten minute afternoon nap since I start teaching only at 2 pm during the week. That helps a lot!

Nipples awfully sore- hopefully it will go away before winter really sets in...sore nipples in the cold isnt fun!

NYC- I too had a miscarriage about 8 months ago with my first pregnancy, so I know how you feel. For me, all the symptoms- sore boobs, queasiness, exhaustion- are actually reassuring because I know that everything is OK with the pregnancy. When I miscarried, the only sign was that all the symptoms suddenly went away...

Flybee, I bought 'What to Expect', but other than that, I am just following common sense guidelines- exercise, sensible eating, getting enough dairy and protein.

lsami- my boobs are incredibly sore too.  They actually feel like there are rocks inside.  They've changed completely, but luckily they haven't gotten any bigger -- yet.  They're already big enough.

nycgirl, I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I hope Wednesday comes fast for you.

flybee, I am feeling so tired! I remember this from my son's pregnancy. I'd fall asleep in the middle of a conversation! LOL. So far so good with not feeling sick at all.   Last week I was craving peanut butter all day every day, the last few days I haven't been hungry at all.

I wonder if BB has a "What to Expect" app I can put on my phone.

I'm not going to bother with any books... Nevermind, I'm a bookwhoreEmbarassed I'll have a library based just on pregnancy alone by May! I'll try to hold off a couple weeks.  Haha, I'm off to Target.

And, it's Saturday night... anyone miss having a couple of cocktails?

flybee, I missed them! I was at a Baptism today and the vino was flowing, but not for me! Alas, small sacrifices in the grand scheme.

I am drinking a lot of decaf lately. Hope that's ok. Does decaf have any caffeine in it at all?

I read WTE with the first pregnancy and found it boring. I also found the book given to my sister by her OB from their society sort of boring and too much about labor and not enough about pregnancy. I need more scientific facts and details. So now I have two strong recommendations from friends I am looking into:

  • New Well Pregnancy Book

And I cannot remember the name of the other one (it goes week by week with real size pictures of the embryo/fetus) but when I do I will post it.

As for symptoms, I have NONE. With the first pregnancy (which was lost) I had major boob pain and intense cramps that eventually went away. This time, nada. Hmmm ... my sister who also lost her first had the same issues. Major symptoms with the one that didn't work out and none with the one that did - so hopefully it's not a bad sign.

Being that I am starting a new job on Monday I really would prefer no symptoms. I heard morning sickness doesn't start much til 8-10 weeks for most anyway.

Thanks for adding the due dates to the top of the thread!

I think decaf has a miniscule amount of caffeine in it.  A starbucks tall brewed decaf has 20 mg (actually not sure what units are used for caffeine).  I couldn't find the details for espresso based drinks, but it's probably about the same or even less.  So you can drink 10 tall coffees and still be under the guideline.

Hi Ladies, congratulations to everyone!  I just took a home test this weekend and found out we are pregnant.. I am so excited it will be our first.  I haven't seen the Dr. yet, but the nurse says I'm about 6 weeks along and from that I figure an early to mid May baby.  We haven't told anyone yet, but I'm bursting, so I may not wait the entire 12 weeks, we'll have to see.

For the last 4 nights I haven't been able to sleep the whole night.  I keep waking up and having to move around, but its like 4-5 times a night.  That's getting annoying and then I nap for like 3-4 hours in the afternoon (at least on the weekends).  Hopefully that will stop soon.  Otherwise just a few pains here and there but nothing that keeps me from doing anything in my everyday life.

Hehe!  I feel weird not having a due date yet.  It's just that my whole cycle was so wacky these last few months, it's very hard to tell.

I'm not sure I can stand waiting till the 23rd to find out how far along I am.  Today, my nausea hasn't been nearly as bad as it has been the last few weeks, so maybe that's a good sign that it will die down now.  Or maybe it's just a sign that I'm eating the right foods to keep it at bay.  The boobs though...ugh!  They are so sore, and already growing too.  I think hubby can't wait till the soreness goes away :p

Congrats ebbz! I will add you to the top of the thread but let me know when you find out your true due date, so I can make it accurate :)

Peach, I also don't know how you are holding out. My u/s is on Wednesday and I can barely wait. If I weren't at risk they would have made me wait til 8-10 weeks!

I still have ZERO symptoms. Not sure if that's good or bad. Felt a bit nauseous today but I think it's cause I got up sooo early.

Off to bed, gals ... keep me posted!

nycgirl, I hope everything went well at your u/s yesterday.

I had an 'official' positive pregnancy test Tuesday and an u/s but it was too early to see anything at 4-5 weeks. I have another one scheduled for Oct. 1st.

I'm not having any symptoms now but I didn't with my son either. I was 12 weeks with him before I MISSED my period. I am having a hard time sleeping but that could be due to anxiety, stuffy nose, random aches... I have ZERO appitite. So just snacking - fruits, veggies, yogurt and milk - through out the day.

I've been swimming and walking for exercise and last night I did the elliptical for 30 minutes and then swam for an hour.  I read something about keeping heart rate below 140 bpm, does anyone know anything about this?

I hope everyone else is doing ok!

Yes, hope your u/s went well, NYC!

Sleeping is getting better, but the mood swings are in full force for me. Also the exhaustion. I try and shut my eyes for fifteen to twenty minutes in the afternoon and that really helps.

Has anyone gained any weight? I checked this morning and it was already 6 lb up from my lowest reading before I found out I was pregnant. Since I am only 9 weeks along, that was a bit of a shock.

I fluctuate quite a bit on a regular basis- dehydration or insomnia can send things swinging by 4 lb. in a single night. Even so, I am a bit alarmed. I had my mum staying with me for a few weeks last month, and we ate out a lot; also I have just started a new job so havent had as much time to exercise as I should. Am making a serious effort to contain the weight gain now- I dont want it to shoot up too much too soon!

I am trying really hard not to gain weight, yet.  I've heard you're only supposed to gain 2-4 lbs in the whole first trimester, so I'm trying to be careful.  It is hard, though, because even after I eat a big, well-balanced meal, I feel like I haven't eaten for 12 hours. (And I mean, 15 minutes after eating.)  It's that gnawing, irritable feeling, all day every day, and sometimes it wakes me up at night.  I haven't lost any weight, so I know I must be eating enough...

Question: midwife or OB?  I need to decide, soon!  I found a couple of midwife groups that will deliver in the hospitals that I want to go into.  I think that they provide more care, and that there is more continuity, but I really don't want to be pressured into a homebirth or something like that.  I want the option of the painkillers, too.

What are you planning?

nycgirl, I think your US was yesterday.  Hope it went well!

OB or midwife? Thats killing me too! We have an OB who both hubby and I trust implicitly- he was really sweet during the miscarriage and has been thereafter. But so many of my friends have had C-sections with OB's that its pretty scary.

If we do decide to go with a  midwife, it will mean re-establishing the whole trust thing....

My ultrasound was tonight and it wasn't good but wasn't bad either. Frustrating.

They think the pregnancy is 5.5 weeks along instead of 6.5 where it is supposed to be. There was no heartbeat or fetal pole seen. But yolk sac is there. Not possible to be a week off in calculation in my opinion, I know exactly when it happened, but biology is never perfect so I am holding out hope til next week and my 2nd ultrasound. That will be definitive.

Til then, we wait. What scares me is I was told I might have a bicornal uterus. The ultrasound was suggestive of this.

I just don't know ....

Just please oh please do it in a hospital, even with a midwife. I know too many problems that have gone wrong to take the risk.

Oh my goodness, congrats to all of you. I am not pregnant, but I had my April 2009 baby so this is so surreal to see April due dates already! I don't know why though, my LO is 5 months so what am I expecting? Haha.
