Back after a year and I have a question...
When I first joined CC I didn't spend very much time here. Lately, I have been trying to read more of the forums and getting used to the site and how to use it. So my question is, is this place for people with eating disorders? I'm really not trying to be dumb or anything but every post I read is about someone with an ed. I am over weight and I just want to make sure I'm going to get help in the right place. Again, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question!
This is a place for all people who want to eat healthier and live healthier lives. Of course, this comes in many varieties including people who need to gain weight, lose weight, maintain, get fit, and a variety of eating disorders.
Just look at the groups to find the support you are looking for. The weight loss group is a good place to start. Best Wishes.
Unfortunately parts of this site are becoming overrun with people with eating disorders. The 'Health and Support', 'Maintenance' and 'Weight Gain' boards are out of control. And I think this is putting people like you off.... which is quite wrong, in my opinion, and I'm getting quite fed up with it. It started off that CC members would only support people in active recovery but the mods seem to let anything go these days. (Mods take note)
The CC message board rules state "Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited" So if you see an eating disorder post feel free to report it as a violation of the rules.
Don't worry anglsmom, there's lots of us overweight people here, lol! You could do a search in the forums to search for members like you (type in your weight, etc.) if that helps.
I've been here for over 2 years and like gi-jane says the pro-ED posts have gotten really bad lately. Hopefully, steps will be taken to curb it.
unfortunately there are many people here who suffer from eating disorders, but our mission is to help them get to a healthier place...not to PROMOTE eating disorders.
There are also many people here who are trying to get to a healthy weight by adopting a healthy lifestyle. There is a wide array of "issues" to be found here and if you need support there will definitely be someone who is dealing with the same things that you are.
I hope you find what you are looking for here on CC and not let the overwhelming number of ED sufferers discourage you from posting.

GI Jane- I agree! I was just talking to another cc member/friend of mine about this very thing last night...I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Seems to have balooned over the last few months. I think it's a "chain reaction".
It's not a dumb question.
To feel more comfortable that CC is right for you (and it is!!!), I think you should find a group or two you like and join. Participate in group threads, make friends, and start side conversations with friends in your journals. Soon you will have a group of people that are on the same page as you, well at least in the same book.
I visit the forums for a change of pace - specifically the weight loss, food, and recipe forums. I do enjoy reading many of the lounge threads, but don't often join in because it seems I can rarely be timely enough to join in with the fun of goofy chatting. I sure enjoy reading them though as many CCers are quite witty.
Agree whole heartedly with GIJane. There are a few ED posters that love the attention of the forums outside of the weight gain and health and support forums and will post quite inappropriately and excessively.
If you stay out of the weight gain and health and support forums you should be fine (for the most part).
Thank you everyone for your comments. I really appreciate the honesty!

You've suggested this before but that seems rather defeatist ..... Members should not consider any forums to be 'no-go areas' because that simply lets the ED people have a free hand. I'd encourage members to use all of those forums and report any violations they find. Democracy in action.
welcome back! :) there are some great tools here, and I'm trying to get back into it to!!
best of luck! <3

Well said & couldn't have agreed more. Lately, too many attention seeking ED postings. Truly seeking support to recover is totally different than looking for 'mutual support' to maintain/justify ED lifestyle....
Hope the MOD does something for it is driving people like me (who aren't "thick skin" with unhealthy issues like ED) away from here to other sites.
