I have just heard of this stuff and to tell you the truth I can't remember being this excited about anything. I love bacon. Has anyone tried this? If so, it is as great as it sounds?
What is it? It sounds horrible but I'm sure by boyfriend would love it...
you can get chicken salt as well, its awesome on fries. YUM
What are smoky bacon crisps? They can't be healthy, but they sound really good.
mmmmm....frazzles!
Where can I find these Frazzles I am hearing about? How come that's not something that has caught on here in the US? What's better than something that's crispy and bacon flavored?
i've not heard of bacon salt, but we recently started using Mexican smoked salt on our grilled foods. it's smoke with some kind of Mexican wood until is it pitch black. gives food that great smoked flavor even if you use an electric grill. and a little goes a LONG way. which is good because it is a bit pricey.
Go to baconsalt.com to check this stuff out. Looks pretty tasty and may be a good alternative for those bacon lovers of the bunch! I just read about it this morning on hungry-girl.com which is a really fun web site.
Yeah, that's where I heard about it too. I think I will have to order some. Did you read the quotes on their website? I almost wet myself reading this one:
“When you put Bacon Salt on mashed potatoes, they try to eat themselves.”
- Aaron Tucker.
I got a pretty good laugh from them.
Frazzles are different to smoky bacon crisps. I don't really like smoky bacon crisps ie. potato chips but frazzles are more of a puffed corn crisp (chip) I think and they melt on your tongue and taste so greasy and good but they're fairly filling and come in small bags for not much more than 100cals.
Are they similar to Pork Rinds?
Erm, I have a feeling pork rinds are like crackling in which case no but I'm not sure.
Pork rinds are deep fried pieces of pig hide... often still with the little hairs attached which is just TMI. Frazzles are an extruded strips of puffed up corn fetchingly striped red and yellow to resemble mini-rashers streaky bacon.
This bacon salt stuff appears to be very old hat indeed. Why would you want everything to taste of bacon? And if it's kosher and vegetarian.... aren't they infringing several trades description laws calling it 'bacon' in the first place?
I dont care about it being kosher or vegetarian, I like the fact that I can have the taste of Bacon without all of the fat and calories, if in deed this stuff tastes like bacon.
To me it tastes like the chemicals it is made of, though it is reminiscent of bacon. If you eat a lot of processed American foods, maybe the chemical flavors won't be so noticeable.

I bought some but havn't tried it yet. Probably will today. Will add it to some scalloped potato's. 135mg sodium for 1/4th tsp. Cholesterol less than 5mg, 0mg for everything else. One thing I don't understand...it has 0 sugar yet corn syrup is the 5th ingredient listed.
OMG--I just tasted it on the tip of my finger. Oh my. I bought the original flavor and it is just...oh my. so good. I think it tastes better than real bacon, LOL.
Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. Oh dear, Dr. Oz would be rolling over in his grave if he were dead. (dr oz of the oprah winfrey show and the "You on a diet" books)
I think I may have to go to the store and buy some potato's and have baking potato's instead of the frozen scalloped potato's. I'll bet it's yummy!
anna
I have ready they have an all natural version, maybe that wont have the chemical taste that people dont like. It sounds like Anna enjoyed it. I am for sure going to order some. I think I am going to try the Pepper version.

I still havn't tried it yet. Havn't been to the store and I forget to put it on other stuff I have at home. I need to set it out on the table so I don't forget about it.

ok. I finally tried the bacon salt on a baked potato. It's ok but it's not all that. I probably didn't use enough of it to really make it stand out but with such a high sodium count...i just didn't want to add all that extra sodium. I'm sure if i would have used more than the 1/4th tsp serving it would have been better.
