bad boys bad boys, whatcha gonna do?!
You think people would eventually grow up and grow out of bashing police officers.
My dad has been a police officer for over 30 years. And he has been through alot with that job obviously.
People have tried to kill him, while he's trying to save someone, he has tried to help people trying to take their own lives, and watched them kill themselves. He has seen alot and helped alot and learned alot. And still theres a ton of people these days that constantly bash officers and want them to die.
Now I am not saying ALL cops are good. Theres a few bad apples in every bundle. But I am just really sick of it. If you hate cops so much, you have probably done something in the past to get in trouble with them, so thats on you, not them. and if you haven't then you are just that stupid. Sure sometimes you get stopped by a cop for no reason, but that doesn't mean all cops are bad. Alot of the cops are good.
I think we should all just appreciate them for what they do. I could never go through what my dad has been through. But he loves it. And I admire that. I just wanted to post this because I think its important. If you want to bash police men in general I don't want to hear it. Just be respectful.
I don't bash them, but I have a natural paranoia that they are all out to get me. I get nervous around them even though I don't do anything that could get me in trouble. I know it's irrational, but I can't seem to help myself.
Tell your dad I said thanks for all he does. There are still people out there who appreciate them!
I am a law enoforcement officer. I know what your talking about all too well. I have seen people die, i have seen people get stabbed, i have been assaulted and battered while i work.
What people do not understand is that we have a job to do just like everyone else. I dont like tax collecters. But i certainly dont shoot at them, curse them out, and avoid them for doing their jobs. We as officers play a vital role in keeping the peace in your communities. It is important that we are there and are very visible hence the blue uniforms ( police ) and green/brown uniforms ( sheriff ).
Why i beleive most people are scared by police is because in their minds they have found a way to justify their criminal activities but they still know it is wrong. Nobody is innocent, because we all speed ... run stop signs and occasionally even pee in public ( I know i have, and most my cop buddies have too.. obviously this only applies to men ).
However, this is no excuse for the way a lot of people treat law enforcement. The truth is if we werent here you would be begging for us. If your local police station announced they were going to stay home for just one day crime rates would climb 1,000+ percent.
Just like it is nature of the beast to not appreciate what they have until they no longer have it, unfortunately i do not think citizens are ever really going to understand the important of their law enforcement officers. However, for those of you that do give money annually in support of your law enforcement i commend you dearly. OP, thanks for this post ..... your father sounds like he was a hell of a cop. This country needs more of those.
I live in a modestly sketchy neighborhood by myself, and I am extremely grateful for the highly visible presences of the officers around here (I could run to the nearest station, if I had to).
I am occasionally shocked by how young some of them are, but maybe that's just me getting old...
I appreciate what they do, and have never been in trouble with the law, nor do I "bash" police officers. However, I used to date a guy who was a punk rocker and he was beaten up on 7 separate occasions by 7 different pairs of police officers in the time I knew him. One time they drove him head first into a wall, battering ram style. He was a very sweet, very pleasant guy who liked to drink a little too much but he was never abusive to anyone when he was drunk (or sober). However, he was drunk in public looking a certain way and that seemed to target him for harassment.
I also knew a police officer who, on the night I found out he used crack cocaine by arriving at his house while he was high, spent nearly an hour telling me how he could kill me and get rid of my body with no one ever finding out. Suffice to say I never saw or spoke to him again although he kept his job despite me reporting him.
So yes, while I agree most police officers are probably genuinely nice guys, there is something about being in a uniform that can give some people a god complex, and it is those people who ruin it for the rest of them. It also appears that they stick together to protect their own, even if their own aren't worthy of protection. You can't blame us for being wary when many of our past experiences have been bad.
well you know ... they want us officers to be attractive and in shape now. They hire young guys so that youth feel more confortable talking to us ..... does it work? not really. I still get called "cracker" 10+ times a day lol. It only makes me laugh at their ignorance though. If people only realized "cracker" didnt mean saltine they might stop saying it.
also, most everybody sticks together to protect "their own". Most police departments are brotherhoods. i mean, we protect eachother and a lot of the times we depend on eachother for protection. It is only right in my eyes to protect the guys who protect me. Death before dishonor and Loyality before everything else.
well im glad you said that jason. seems like your a great officer too!

no i dont blame you for past experiences. but those were with officers that obviously were not doing their job right if what you said is true.
And i have run in with the law one without doing anything wrong. i was swinging at a park with some friends killing time and 2 uc's blocked my car in and told me they smelled marijuana. We had no pot. None. we hadnt smoked it either. They searched everything. In the end I was like "have you guys smelled alot of pot before? because there was no smell at all"
they were a little embarrassed to find out who my dad was.....
Most of the cops i've run into were jerks, (including one who backed up and hit my bf's car while we were in it, then drove away) so I can't issue praise here.

I am a little put out by you questioning the veracity of my statements. I didn't question the trials and tribulations that your father has had to endure in his line of work. I agree they were not doing their job right, but 14 separate cops seemed to think it was ok to harass and assault someone because of the way he looked. That is a large number of people to be not doing their job right, under any circumstances, in any line of work.
And I will ask, why do you want "your own" to include crack cocaine users who threaten the lives of young women? That, to me at least, is not someone who deserves protection and yet, by putting on a uniform, he has managed to garner that protection for life.
I agree they have a very crappy job at times, but I will also say they are far from perfect. If the only way to engender change is by protest against the actions of some of their members then I, for one, am all in favour of protest.

what? i wasn't questioning it. You said your friend was beaten up, and if he was just beaten up for no reason then I would agree on people being wary on the past experiences BUT like I have been told alot on this forum "just because one person of that group of people is like that doest mean you can think everyone is" it seems odd just because he was a punk rocker, but if thats the case then that sucks.
and i dont understand the crack cocaine statement...

you say cops act like the are god, then you say they are normal people, then you say you saw one smoking crack one time. So which is it ... they are god or nomal people? See, this is your misconception. Officers ARE normal people with normal problems and normal lives. We do things normal people do. In some instances this includes having drug problems. I myself have struggled with drugs. But, this does not make any person a bad person. It certainly doesnt warrant praise, but it definately doesnt warrant harassment by citizens. Most people are like you who assume police officers are more law abiding than others. We are not so. I would never say that we were. But to assail on us because we "protect and serve" and still resume lives as normal people is no differant than the personal trainers found at every gym around the world who are are overweight, telling people "this is how you lose weight" then eating a storm. Yet, i dont here people harrassing them. Look, the point of this post is not that schnooder condones that police are law abiding citizens or should be held on a pedastool. She is simply saying that you should provide them with respect for doing their jobs properly, and with the same respect you provide everyone else in the like. but, i beleive that some people are ignorant to this and cant help but to beleive that we as cops think we are better than everyone else. just tidbits.
agreeeeeeeeeeed!!
I think cops are sexy!! My cousin is married to a cop in the Washington, DC area. And two of my very good friends are married to men who are cops in New York (NYPD).
I think it's just like anything else in that a few bad eggs give the whole profession a bad name. It just happens that with cops, folks expect them to be perfect.
I agree cops get a bad rap for no reason. I respect them. And I've only had one bad experience with an officer. She was a woman and she acted like she had soooo much to prove, and like she was better than me. She was a b*tch. But I don't think all cops are like her, because of it.

Police officers are human; some police officers have god complexes, but that doesn't make them less human - just because you think you can act like a god, it doesn't make you a god.
My point was not that the police officer was smoking crack cocaine while I was in his house. My point was that he made me fear for my life while he was high on crack cocaine, and when I finally escaped from the situation and went to his precinct to file a report detailing what he had said and done in my presence he received no reprimand what-so-ever and I was made to feel like I had made up the whole thing. It made a bad person above the law, and that is not fair to regular citizens.
Had he been a "normal" person, there would at least have been an investigation, but because of his job the implication was that he was completely justified in scaring the living crap out of me - or at the very least I was liar and was making something up about a "good cop". Not only was he allowed to take illegal drugs without consequence, but he was also allowed to threaten my life and no one gave a crap. That is what I meant about "protecting your own". There is nothing wrong with sticking up for your friends/workmates but you are sworn to protect the public - not just from people who you WANT to protect them from. I had literally no recourse in a situation where I was very, very scared.
That said, I do not now, nor will I ever harass police officers. However, I will continue to question their methods because it is my view that there are aspects of the system that are flawed. I don't know how to improve it, but I will always remain open to suggestions on how to make law enforcement better.

whatever dude, stop posting ... i think your credibility on this forum is shot.
*Whips out epeen*
What? We weren't comparing whose was bigger?
Since when did I have any credibility on this forum anyhow? And when did I want it? None of my points were unreasonable, and just because you have no response for them, doesn't make them invalid. Have a nice day, I am going back to studying genetics.
