how bad is bread????
I love bread and always want it with every meal but since starting cc i have had hardly any but i miss toast and have to have it. so how bad is bread really for you?

bread is very good for you, dont let anyone say it isnt, its pratically the staff of life for humanity. its just those stupid low carb diets that tell you bread is bad, true and complex whole grain breads are some of the best things you can put in your body.
I enjoy my 12 grain, whole wheat bread a few times a week, toasted with a bit of apple butter. I love it and it's good for me. Your body needs complex carbs for energy. Bread, whole wheat bread, is very good for you.
Agreed, whole grain breads, pitas, english muffins, etc are necessary in a healthy diet... especially for people who work out. I work out everyday and I find that if I don't get my full 4-6 servings of whole garins during that day, my energy is in the toilet.
Even worse, when people at work found out I was counting my calories and losing weight, they all found it necessary to throw in their two cents. And the largest woman I work with said "All you need to do is cut out bread girl... Carbs are the key!" I have a weight loss goal of 20 lbs and I've lost 11 so far WITH BREAD in my diet'/;.. Shows how much she knows!

As long as you stay away from the processed stuff, bread IS good for you (just had a thick slice of rye bread with Camembert cheese). If you look at running sites, they'll all tell you that bread is a must.

Many foods people label "bad" arent bad - its the over consumption of them. Bread is light and fluffy, but can pack a calorie punch. It doesnt have to tho, and it depends what you have it with.
Obviously there are "better" types of bread, but it depends what you want.
You can eat it with every meal, but just make sure, if you wanna loose weight, you're staying under cals. And just check your bread isnt loaded with salt.
I like bread. Its ok. I'd rather have the same amount of cals in fruit tho, so I dont eat too much. If you want to have bread every meal, but also want to cut back on the amount you eat try -

Having a "1/2 samwhich" - Eg. a half salad and chicken - just use one piece of bread in half and pack everything in. Anything that doesnt fit goes into your "side salad"

There is a big debate about bread and dairy on lots of different sites. A bodybuilding forum I used to lurk on was so hardcore they were like NO BREAD OR DAIRY. One of the reasons I was undereating was the fact I wasnt eating enough whole grains/bread. Bread is not bad for you, and I think sites need to be better about making that clear. If you eat bread, make sure its whole grain and limit how much you eat of it daily.

I love bread, too. Especially really crusty chewy euro style breads. But, actually any bread!

Only when we go out, or when I buy a good bread or make one...do I splurge.
You can build 100-200 calories into a decent days caloric requirements and feel good about it. It's healthy!

I used to hate wheat and "good for you bread" but I have switched to whole grain breads and really like it. I like the Sara Lee "Delightful" its 45 cals a slice and is the only low fat low carb whole grain bread that doesn't taste like cardboard and is the same size as a normal piece of bread.
