how bad was this and how should i compensate?

Quote  |  Reply

i'm home alone most of the day, as my little brother has a doctor's appt in the city. my mom was here to give me breakfast, but i'm alone until about 4 o clock. as im not in school and just sitting doing hw all day, i feel really disgusting, and so i went for a 20 minute run. i figured this would be a little less than being in school all day in terms of calories burned and exercise. was i right?

if i'm wrong, how many calories should i make up?

thanks!

i can understand why you did it, although i wouldnt advise it to become a habit , you really shouldnt be running in your condition it put a whole lot of added strain on your body , if ever you feel like that again take a short walk fresh air usually helps me feel better . i guess we all have to deal with the change in enviroment ie you being at home and not in school it isnt normal to do the same everyday but i know when you have an ed its hard to deal with it . if i was youd id just carry on and perhaps add an extra snack some milk and biscuits anything you can manage h x

how much damage does it do? i went on another one! ugh

sarah-yes, BAD, r u in therapy? r u eating 2500? what changes have u made?

it really seems like ur struggling, have u considared a more intensive recovery?

oh dear hun . while ever you are underweight you are at risk but more so when you are running you are pushing your weak body lots of things could happen as you are putting pressure on all your organs including your heart, you also risk the fact you blood sugar to drop causing you to pass out, not to mention the damage it does on your bones muscles and joints ,your muscle will be wasted . in the long term you risk osteophrosis which i have from over exercising , you really dont want that do you ? not to mention all the calories you are burning . sorry if im worrying you but it really is reality . by all means take a gentle walk but you really shouldnt be running your body is not strong enough h x

i am almost healthy weight-wise, so i don't feel like intensive recovery (i.e. residential) is necessary (my BMI is in the high 17s) my mom is currently doing the maudsley...sometimes i have trouble following it.

i am in therapy, but due to school work and clubs i haven't gone in several weeks.

tessa- thank you for trying to scare me and warn me and for your concern. i know what you're saying is true, but ED is telling me it doesn't apply to me. i ate slightly more to compensate

almost healthy bmi?? at 17-youre WRONG!! so misguided sarah!  ur classified as underweight and anorexic- MEDICALLY

go to ur medical docotr, therpaist, anything, 40 mins of running at a bmi of 17 is not a good move

u r NOT almost healthy in weight

trouble following ur mothers foodplan-problem

running-problem

thinking ur almost at a healthy weight-problem

stop fooling urslef, get healthy, get over this, live life!

my bmi is 17 to but i realise im not healthy and i dont feel it , i dont run . you are so young its hurts me to see you doing this to your body you need to sort this now. dont be fooled in thinking you are ok , the years will pass you by and you will be in the same position as me thinking why didnt i tackle this when i was younger h x

Helen. *Hugs*. I love you girl.

Butterskid that was an extremely ignorant and damaging post. Please ignore it, sarah. You need to be focusing on recovery. We're here for you xoxox

butterskid what the hell was all that about ?

Sarahbear24, what are you goals? Are you trying to gain? Are you in recovery? If so, exercising isn't the answer. Don't do it while you try to gain. If you do exercise, you need to eat back the calories PLUS MORE.

Without more information we can't help you.

i apologize. yes I am trying to gain, hence the reason this post is in the weight gain forum. my first and foremost goal is to regain my period, which, oddly enough, i got back at 94 lbs and then lost it again, and i am now 98-99.  i am 5 feet 2.5 inches. but exercise releases endorphins and makes me feel so good! i am usually quite sedentary, this is very occasionally. which is why i dont understand why we need 2500 to gain...sedentary i burn ilke 1500 calories.
