2 bad days in a row! Will the weight come off?

Quote  |  Reply

I normally average 1200-1300 calories a day (adjusted, meaning I always eat back what I work off). However, the last 2 days I have been starving and eating like 2000-2500 calories. My weight is up 4 pounds and I am so upset. Will the weight come off again after a few days or do I have to work it all off again?

Stats: Female, Age 19, Starting weight of 165, current weight of 155, 5'9

I think you know the answer to this. Logically you know this isn't actual weight gain...you didn't eat 14000 calories OVER maintenance in 2 days, in fact you didn't even eat OVER maintenance at all. So you didn't gain anything. Even if 1200 was maintenance you would have gained less than a pound by eating 2400 or so calories more over the 2 days.

Since you're the same age as I am, you should be eating at LEAST 1500 a day. And on top of that, you're much taller. So you should be eating more than that anyway. I recommend ditching the 1200-1300 a day thing and starting up with a 1700-1800 a day thing.

Also, it's not real weight gain. It's just extra food in your stomach.

I'm also 5'9 with a starting weight of 165 lbs, first time I see someone on here with the same stats ^^ however, I'm 10 years older than you.

I've had a few days of eating >2000 kcal and the weight still kept coming off after those days. Chances are it gave your metabolism a boost, you gave the body what it demanded. There's a difference between when your body demands food and when your mind does.

If you're gaining this much from only 2 bad days, you're probably not eating enough in your diet. 1200-1300 calories is insanely low.

It's water weight.  I'm guessing that you probably ate more sodium and simple carbohydrates than you normally do.  And you probably got a chance to replenish your glycogen reserves.  Glycogen holds water.  It's not a bad thing.  Don't worry too much about the number on the scale.  I know.  Easier said than done.

But ultimately, you're trying to lose fat, not weight.  And you did not gain fat if you were only eating 2000-2500 calories a day for the last 2 days.  If you were that hungry, you needed the food.  Your body was trying to tell you that you've been restricting too much.  Don't be so hard on yourself.
