is it bad to weigh yourself every day if you're trying to maintain?
i personally think it's obsessive and can cause anxiety, i prefer to weigh every week, same day around the same time, naked, before eating, after working out. every day is just a bit too much for my liking. maybe 2-3 times a week tops.
I don't do it because you see every little spike rather than a trend forming. I had a range of 6lbs in one day once jus from eating, drinking etc!
I weigh every monday morning, before I eat or drink anything, naked and after going to the toilet! Then you see real change from the week before which is much more satisfying than seeing .1 lb come off or something
I think once a week is best. After waking and going to the toilet. Naked or in underwear/pyjamas, and you must allow for natural fluctuations.
A 2kg fluctuaction range has been suggested to me before. Thats about 4.5lb and even that's quite a narrow range. It's completely NATURAL for your weight to vary even when maintaining ![]()
I do weigh myself every day. It's such a habit first thing in the morning I can't imagine not doing it. But I don't freak out when the number goes up and down, as long as it stays within a certain range. I think it helps me stay focussed on maintaining, and I haven't gained any weght back yet, so I'm not about to mess with success.
It depends on how you feel about it. If it doesn't bother you that it fluctuates a lot day to day, that's fine. If seeing a bigger number ruins your day, maybe do it once a week.
I'm with the complusive control group....I do weigh myself everyday. I am still in losing weight mode, but even once I hit maintain...I probably will continue to weigh myself close to daily and also continue to chart my weight with CC.
One of the major elements that has me losing is the charting of my weight, finding my pattern and understanding how I lose...so I don't freck out. So I would think keeping that schedule of weighing pretty much everyday will keep me in check with my diet and weight.
So I vote yes to weighing!
Congrat's on getting to maintaining weight....also however you got there with weighing maybe best for you?
I have been weighing myself about once a week or maybe once every couple of weeks. Mostly once a week. I do sometimes tend to worry if I'm not eating enough calaries in a day and then weigh myself every few days or couple of days. But, I try not to get obsessive with weighing myself all the time. It does go up and down from day to day. It was going up and down between a five pound range...sometimes down a couple, sometimes up one, then down three, etc. Here lately it's been staying pretty much the same. It went down about six pounds and then pretty much has stayed the same sense. It has gone up a pound or two a couple times though.
I just really don't think it's good to check your weight every day though. You see it going up and down all the time and you could get worried about gaining too much or losing too much. It could just stress you out when there's no need for that. If you check every week or two then you can see overall how you're doing and then go with that, not having to worry about it so much as it goes up and down.
