over the past few days i've been having one HUGE meal a day around lunchtime, and not eating ANYTHING for the rest of the day. when i say a HUGE meal, i mean that i eat until i feel bloated and sick. and then for the rest of the day i don't feel even remotely hungry at all. for example, yesterday for lunch i had: -1 bowl whole grain cereal -1 glass non fat milk -grilled chicken breast with mushroom sauce -basmati rice (1/4 plate) -pasta with tomato sauce (1/4 plate) -slice of whole wheat bread -two cups of coffee -FIVE cookies, chocolate chip, m&m, shortbread and other varieties

and for the rest of the day all i had was water. and today for lunch i had: -3 eggo waffles (so good! i love them) -5 slices of canned pineapple -1 bowl of smart start cereal with soy milk -1 bowl of rice krispies cereal with soy milk -1 bowl of kix cereal with soy milk -1 bowl of fruit yogurt with granola and strawberry jam

and haven't eaten anything since. is this bad for my body? i mean, i'm sure it's not exactly healthy, but just how bad is it?

well its not recommeened, try to eat normally if you can.

at least you are getting food for the day.

your not as bad as a guy i know who eats like a few grapes for the day, then eats all his calories at 11:00 at night and goes to bed an hour later.
this IS bad b/c it sends your metabolism waaay up when u eat all that at once, then it plummets and your body stores fat for the rest of the day. I've found, however, that when you eat 5-6 small meals/day, you can eat low-calorie and feel satisfied b/c you are always eating. i used to eat 3 square meals, but I would be ravenous and fall off the wagon.

Are you losing weight? Because it seems like it'd take a miracle to that way. You should eat all day long. It keeps your metabolism going, and your body doesn't store everything. I don't recommend your method!

during lunchtime i get these irresistable urges to just stuff myself. and then afterwards i feel really guilty. and i feel so sick of food that i can go the rest of the day without eating anything...partly because of the guilt but also partly because i don't feel hungry at all. i haven't been doing this for that long (just a few days) so hopefully it hasn't been too detrimental to my body...i haven't been losing weight, but i haven't gained any either (knock on wood)

thanks everyone for the advice! :) i think i'm going to try the 5-6 small meals a day thing...hopefully i'll be able to resist the ability to cram everything into my mouth.
I'd definitely suggest, for a starter at least, making sure to eat breakfast.  I'm crappy at making breakfast, so I usually eat a protein bar for it, but a bowl of cereal is a good option.  Ideally there should be some protein in whatever you eat, but anything is better than nothing.  I'm told that after your metabolism slows when you sleep, it doesn't speed up again until you eat!

Even if that turns out to be just a rumour, if you eat breakfast you'll probably have less of a mad urge to eat everything in sight at lunchtime!  And the other good thing about breakfast, as a change of habit: you can add it to your morning routine, so you don't have to rearrange your schedule.

Eating one big meal a day probably won't hurt you, afaik, but if you're trying to lose weight (and who here isn't?) it seems fairly well-established that spreading it through the day tends to be more effective.
It's definately not healthy to do that.  Breakfast is a real important meal, and should not be skipped.  You're also probably stuffing yourself so much at lunch because you're really hungry.  It's better to eat smaller meals throughout the day.
