I'm 16 yrs old, about 6 ft, and about 165 pounds.Well i started coutning cals in the middle of summer, i used to be obese and lsot about 50 pounds from joining wrestling, then i foudn this site in the middle of summer, i wasnt very fat but i could stand to lsoe a few pounds and i lsot about 10-14 pounds when i first started watching wat i ate i realzied i got full at liek 1800 calories so i would jsut say oh well and let it be, even tho the calculator said i needed 2400-2800, possibly even around 3200 while wrestling seaso nwas around, yet i jsut ate 1800 cuase i dint know better and was jsut full, and that is how i lsot the weight probably, but then it started devoloping inot a fear of going over 1800-1860 and now i feel like im stuk there and i never wana go over. Then on top of that i would get really busy in the day and realzie by 8 or 9 o clock soemtime even 10 pm that i had only eaten like 800-1000 calories, so i dditn want to lose anymore weight so i would stuff myself with enough calroies to get up to liek 1850 all in about an hour at maybe 9 o clcok at nite, pretty soon it became a habit, and now everyday it seems liek if i lsiten to hunger i will only be at 900 cals by night time and have to do the 1000 calorie binge at night, and this is everyday now and soemtiems i will make sure to eat only low cal food during the day cuase i fear due to my habits that my body will be starving at night and i will need those 1000 calories to binge on (even though i'm not very hungry when eating them)
so what i want to know is, 1) does anyone else have this same problem, eating only like 800-900 calories by bedtime then eating a 1000 more to maintain your weight (ive made sure always to get up to 1850 at least cuase i dont want to lose anymore) and 2) how do i get rid of this habit, i know it sounds easy liek jsut eat more during the day, but im afraid i will be starvign at night becuase of waht my body is normally used to. and 3) even though im not losing any weight on like 1850 calories a day, all calculators say i need liek 2500-3000 a day and i know i do too especially cuase i feel generaly weaker than i used to not by much, by jsut a little, but won't i start gaining weight if i eat more becuase im maintaing rite now at only 1850 cals a day....? I want to start eating 2500-3000 calories a day but i don't know hwo to start and how to do it without gaining weight..
I mainly jsut want to be able to not count cals at all, but its like some OCD thing stuck in my head and it doesnt help wen uve memorized the calorie coutn of so many things, i really want to be able to go back to no cal counting, eating jsut hwen hungry, but i dotn want to gain weight
Any help/advice is aprreciated and thank you if you read this far

Increase your serving sizes a bit at each meal. Also, add an
extra piece of fruit and/or nuts/cheese or yogurt (I like yogurt with
bananas, blueberries and walnuts) between meals. You can work
your way up the calorie ladder with healthy nutritional additions to
your diet.
Good that you're paying attention to this... and looking for a healthy lifestyle. Nicely done and keep up the good work.

the general rule of thumb is to let your hunger/fullness be your guide. but that general rule only works well if you are eating a nutritious diet.
you can go to mypyramid.gov and it will tell you, based on your individual stats, how much of each food group you should be eating, and the charts list lots of foods for each group, with the amount for each that constitutes a serving.
It's a great place to help plan a diet.
then be brave and trust your body to tell you when to eat and when to not eat. i know they say, mind over matter, but this time, in your case, it's probably best to tell the mind to take a hike and listen more carefully to your body.

Try something to reset your appetite: instead of eating more at night to make up the calories, go to bed hungry and have a real serious breakfast in the morning. Best to get the fuel when your body really needs it--you'll have more energy.
thanks for replies, anyone else?
Keep in mind that in order to gain weight(fat) you need to eat a lot of bad foods; high fat and high calorie, frequently. If you're eating clean then your chances of gaining weight will be slim, despite the increase of calories. You might gain a little at first, but it should level off and you'll adjust.
I kno how u feel jdub..i need 2000 to maintain and i was eating around 1600 daily so i upped my calories a lil by lil and reached to 1950 and im not gaining weight...I ALWAYS have atleast 800 left by dinner time so i tend to eat alot at night..im used to eating alot at night and i dont feel famished during the day so i guess im okay :)
