how bad is this kind of overeating?

Quote  |  Reply

i think it's more like a binge.  i had 5 slices of pizza but with all the toppings and cheese off, that's how i like it, plain.  so it's basically all carb, refined though.  what should i do to not gain weight? what should i eat?  stay away from carbs a few days, even complex ones like whole grain?  help me.

That's not a binge, you had it right in your title with over eating. I feel ya...I ate a whole pint of some really caloric ice cream last night.

My advice is to go on like it didn't happen. Continue the next day like a normal day and just move on from one day of a splurge. (It might even rev up your metabolism from having a day that is higher then usual.) It's what I'm doing and all seems fine. :)

Just stay off the scales until your next weigh in. (hopefully you do it once a week.)

This is exactly what works for me. Don't dwell on it; move on as if it never happened, but don't let it happen anytime soon. Stick with your healthy eating and lifestyle. You will be just fine.

It is not a binge at all. And Silentdeadlyrose is right. You carry on as normal, you don't "make up for it" with any sort of compensatory behaviour. Drink plenty of water today, keep off your scale, continue on as normal. One day will not hurt you.

If overeating is common for you you need assess why it is happening. Common causes of overeating include eating too little or taking dieting to extremes, thus being starved or semi-starved; skipping meals; restricting certain foods or even food groups for invalid reasons (valid would be things like religious beliefs, or vegetarianism for beliefs) and thus feeling deprived; or eating out of boredom, fatigue, sadness, or another emotional connection. If it is common for you, figure your triggers, and begin to work on anticipating them.

One of the most common causes I have seen on CC is due to people not eating enough for their stats, so make certain you are: if you are 21 or older use CC's tools to work out your BMR so you have a number to work from for your diet: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-bur ned.php. If you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.

Also, do remember: one large meal, one night dining out, an extra helping and so on does not a binge make. If the pizza was your dinner, how you like it and just happened to be a bit larger than usual, it is not a binge. Binges are more mindlessly consuming food, no matter the caloric content of the binge, combined with a feeling of a loss of control over the eating and often eating beyond satiety.

It's not so bad.  Personally, the thing that would worry me most about that is all the sodium, and as long as you're drinking your 8-10 glasses, you should be just fine.  That said, I wouldn't make a habit of eating pizza like that.  I was watching something on the book Eat This, Not That, and they said that ham on a pizza is better than cheese pizza because the meat is lean and it displaces the fatty cheese, so I'd say as long as you had veggies on that pizza, too, it wasn't a half-bad meal.

Just move on as everyone else said. When I visit my friend we regularly split extra large pizza, and one time ate two large ones between the two of us. Indulging/over eating once in a while is ok, keep you sane. :)

just get over it and move on. the more you think about it, the worse it'll be.

HELLO: What you should do is to re-start your diet again. You should increase your aerobic exercising for about 3 days to shock your metabolism and at the same time you should quit all your starchy-carbohydrates at least for 1 week, and only try to get your carbohydrates from non-starchy carbohydrate options such as broccoli, green-cabbage, and fruits like apples, grapefruits and oranges.  I know this way of eating is a lot more expensive, but face it if you wanna lose weight fast you gotta spend money $$ (eating to lose weight is real expensive)

Another thing you should do is to cook in advance. Well try to get an extra refrigerator for your house in order to store like 3 breakfast, 3 lunches and 3 dinners there (for 3 days in advance) and cook 2 times a week.  Don't cook every day, because cooking is real exhausting.

i hope this helps

another thing is buy cuban coffee, the dark expresso coffee, coffee is good because it kills hunger and diet soda

I Identify with your mental pain that you are feeling right now. I know what is like to diet, to exercise a lot for like 2 to 3 weeks in a row and then to kill all that effort, hunger, hours at the gym and pain in 1 day of binge-eating. I can identify with what you must be passing thru right now. I know it is a failure.  But be strong, you will get back to your body weight again in a couple of days.  Be strong and try to stay away from binges, get into a hobby too, like movies, politics, etc. something to get your mind off the kitchen and food.  Because binging is depressive indeed after you do it

While I do agree with some of what you say, a major problem is the idea that we can have any two of the three (fast, good, cheap).  This does not apply to weight loss.  Simply throwing money at the problem will not get you good and fast weight loss.  There is no fast weight loss solution that is good, or at least not by the definition of today's now-now-now mentality.

Increasing your exercise is a good thing for losing weight (assuming that you keep it within reasonable limits).

Starchy carbs are not bad (whole grain rice, potatoes with skin, yams, bananas), these are all nutrient laden foods.  When they've been processed so that most of the nutrients and fiber are absent then they are not the healthiest choice, but then again, at that point they aren't the same as the original food anyway.

Coffee is not for everyone.  For me, I love my coffee, but for some it causes intestinal issues.

Hello: hi, how are you? Well i guess you are right, i guess that starchy-carbohydrates such as some pasta, rice, even a slice of bread, potatoe are not bad provided we ate limited amounts of them.  Don' get me wrong, i am not a low-carb proponent.  However i do think that it is possible to lose weight faster if we get rid of all starchy carbohydrates altogether and get our carbohydrate sources from fibrous carbohydrates such as green cabbage, brocoli, brussel sprouts, spinach, and from fruits low in glycemic index such as apples, oranges, grapefruits.  However this kind of eating is real expensive because vegetables and fruits have been increasing in price lately.

Thanks

I find that buying frozen takes care of that nicely for me.  For $1.29 I get a pound of frozen broccoli and then I don't have to worry about using it before it spoils.  The same with green beans, asparagus, bell peppers, artichoke hearts although the price does vary a bit.  They go very well in stir fries or often just steaming in the microwave and dressed up with a sprinkle of salt and some pepper.

you can't change what is in the past so go on with  your life and learn it is only when we don't learn that it can become a problem.
