So, today I realized that ALL of the resumes that I sent out on Saturday (and one on Wednesday) had the incorrect home phone number on them.  So, I corrected them all and sent emails to all 5 of the jobs I applied for saying that I attached a new resume with the correct phone number on it.  ONLY I FORGOT TO ACTUALLY ATTACH THE NEW RESUME.  I feel like an idiot.  I also feel like I am never going to find a job...at least not something I like.

In any case, I know there are worse things, but I still feel pretty stupid.  ::sigh::  Maybe someone will still want to hire me.

OH NO!!

that really does stink!  I'm sorry  :/

like you said... maybe they'll look past that and

WAIT!

did you send in the updated copy after all (third time)  or did you just leave it be?  if not....  Hell, send it in anyway.  what's the worst that could happen?  they not call you back.  If you don't send it in, then they really CANT call you back because they wont have your info

at least you'd be able to look back and say you tried, right?

Also, if you've got gmail, you can add an option so that you can undo a "send" for a few seconds after hitting the button - which gives you a few extra seconds to realize "crap, I didn't attach anything"

I did double check and for all of the third emails I remembered the attachments....but boy did I feel stupid.  I just wrote that I forgot to attach it.

After this happened, I discovered gmail Labs...turns out there is a feature that tells you that you forgot to attach something when you  have written in the body of the email about attaching something...so I turned it on for if it ever happens again.  Hopefully it works....

I know a lot of people commit this error, so hopefully it's not too damaging.  Plus, the people applying for the jobs I applied for are few and far between...what with the being a native English speaker and fluent Italian speaker.  So, hopefully their pool is so small that they consider me despite my phone number mistake and attachment mistake!

The phone number mistake isn't common, but it's understandable. The attachment mistake is super common, and therefore understandable.

Being able to own up to your mistake and correct it immediately isn't common - and it's admirable. So I think you'll be ok.

Yeah, I more or less just said that I screwed up (in a much more refined manner) and that I was sorry.  Hopefully I was classy enough.

In my experience, the people that the e-mail goes to aren't the ones that make the decision anyway.  It goes to a secretary or some such, who then compiles a stack and gives it to the decision-maker.

I don't think it is much to worry over.

And good luck with the job hunt!

I HOPE the person who is going to be judging my resume is not the person who receives it in the email.  That would be perfect.  At least I know one of the places was a recruiting agency and they are just going to send the corrected one to the company that might want to hire me...so at least one wasn't an entire fail.

*crosses fingers and lurks around the house waiting for the phone to ring*

OUCH! Well, maybe you have learned something from this... always proofread your resume, and maybe add the attachment when you first start the email instead of right before you send it. My husband made a flyer to sell some puppies and he put the wrong phone number! Ooops.

Oh man, that sucks. Foot in mouth Sorry that happened!

Is there any way you could deliver an updated resume to every one of those places in person?  Don't even mention the mistakes, just offer the new updated one, and say you're following up in person because you're really interested in the job.

Job hunting absolutely stinks.  I've been going through this process since December.  Which I know for some out there, that probably isn't long at all.  I feel for those and am thankful I have a job.  I gradatued with my BS in December and want to start my career.  Guess I didn't pick the best time to finish my degree... If you'd like to swap stories or share in the venture, feel free to send me an email!  It would be great to have a little company though all this. Wink

@qaowk

I think that would work well in the US...unfortunately Italy is all backwards.  I've read up on job searching in Italy, and it is quite different...and from what I understand it would be weird to just go there and talk to them.  I wish I could do that though...I'm less of a moron in person.

Job hunting sucks, and every time I don't get called for an interview I get all upset.  I feel like I am going to be unemployed forever.  If you can believe it, the job market is worse in Italy than it is in the US.
