bad day-need encouragement

Quote  |  Reply
I don't know what's going on with me lately, but I've been so moody.  I'm feeling really low today and all I want to do is eat.  Already munched down a croissant and timbit *donut hole* and I bought a Mr. Big bar that is staring at me right now.   Please help, I don't want to start binging again, I've been doing so well.  Lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. I just wish I would cheer up and not have to be bored staring at my computer screen at work.

What's one thing you can do today to make today better than yesterday? Do that -- I know you can! -- and you'll feel better!
OK STOP AND BACK AWAY FROM THE FOOD.

Stuffing yourself isn't going to make you feel better  -- trust me I have tried it.  It is going to make you feel worse.

Smile.....really do it.  Get up and take a walk or stay here and we will talk you through it.
First of all, give away the candy bar quickly!  Then eat something that makes you feel healthy (an apple?) and drink some water and then tell yourself how proud of yourself you are for choosing healthy.  I know all about losing 5 lbs & gaining back 3, etc - then you look back 3 months later & realize how much time you lost.

You can do it!

edit:  Then add your binge foods into your log and see how many cals you're at so far... and still work not to go over your cals so that by the end of the day you'll be able to say "Yup, I ate some bad things but I didn't go off my 'diet' b/c I still managed to stay in my calorie range".  Like an egg white omelette and lots of salad - very low cal, still filling.  4 hard boiled egg whites tossed in veggies w/ some balsamic vinegar & mustard - under 100 cals for supper if that's all you have left.
get up and give that candy bar to someone right NOW!
its so hard.  im so bored at work lately and its been aweful... im terrible for boredom eating...

well...i just shoved that chocolate bar in a desk drawer...

ate a nectarine instead...  still have a problem i guess
No take the candy bar out of your desk and get RID of it.  We are going to hound you until you do....
haha

I gave it to my friend, she told me I'm a bad influence.

thanks guys
Good job!  You took control.  I almost had to get out my sword. ha ha

Now find something to keep you busy...
Are you getting enough calories? Sometimes when you aren't getting enough calories, it can affect your mode. 5 lbs in 2 weeks is just a bit beyond what the healthy recommendation of 1-2 lbs per week.
Can you surf the Victoria's Secret website?  Any clothing website?  Maybe that'll inspire you to do well today, or simply distract you.  And remember, you're stronger than you think.  It's all a state of mind.  I emotionally eat.  I don't binge, but my struggle is somewhat similar in that boredom makes me want to eat.  But just think, after all that food is gone, will you feel as good as you think you will if you give in?  It takes only a few seconds to eat a candy bar.  How much boredom will that cure?  Then you'll be left wanting more.  You feed the temptation, it will only crave more.

You're doing WONDERFUL!  Don't be too hard on yourself, but know that you are a strong person and can make it through.  :)
OK.  Every time you get bored, drink some water and post something.  :-)  No, really!  :-)

Either you'll get over being so bored and you'll fill up so you don't crave more, or at least you'll be getting your water in and talking things through with people who know how you feel.

Maybe tell yourself you can't eat that candy bar--if that's what it takes--until you've consumed ALL the water you need for the day.  Whew!  By that time, you'll likely not want it, but even if you still do, you've bought yourself some more time to think about eating healthier and picking better food options instead.  And, maybe eat some fruit--its sweet, too!  Not quite candy, but still yummy.

Hang in there. . . I have had days like that, although mine usually involve salty snack foods.
I'm sitting in my office staring at the computer and thinking of eating sweets myself!  Sometimes, I even look up desserts on the web and stare at the pictures ::Droool::  LOL, I know it's hard, but you are doing a wonderful job.  Good for you for giving away the chocolate!

pastmyburdens had a great idea.  I surf the web and look at clothes and remind myself why I'm doing this.
I'm definately a boredom eater.  Why do you think I'm so active here?!  At work, it's ok because if I don't bring food, I don't eat it since I'm too lazy to go buy something but at home...  Watch out!

I try to always have something around to do, like read a short story, chat with a friend online, heck, even call someone.  No one likes hearing the person on the other end of the line chewing in their ear.  I'm trying to pick up making Artist Trading Cards, too.  They're mini art projects that are sized like traditional trading cards.  There's tons of info on the web.  I like the idea because they're small so I can finish them in one sitting and not have it hanging over my head like my 2 year old scrapbook that hasn't been touched in almost a year.

It's really hard when you're feeling down, I know.  I've been pretty blah for the last week or so and am only just pulling out of it.  Try working out, if you can, or just getting outside.  The sunlight always helps me feel better.

You can do this!
thanks guys, i feel a little better.

ix, I'm definitely getting enough calories.  I think working out has been speeding up my weightloss as well. thanks for your concern though.

victorie secret website hey....good idea....
never thought of using the victoria's secret website. on the way to lunch when i am particularly ready to stuff my face with food, i find some lady that has a nice body or clothes that fit well...today it was a lady with super toned arms. it helps me stay motivated.

also, my roommate recently moved out and left packages of kit kat bars in the fridge. they tempted me for 3 days until i got fed up, unwrapped them, and threw them in the trash can.
Good job for giving that candy bar away.

Kudos to the people in this post too for really staying on her.

Don't let it get you down girl, I find EBAY keeps me entertain when I am bored...spend lots of money, but oh well. It's gonna be OTAY girl!

One thing that helps me when I get down is to write a list of 20 things you are thankful for.  (At least one of them is to be in a position where you have so much food to choose from.  Are you healthy?  You can read, and you have a job.  You are articulate.  Think of two close friends for whom you are thankful.)  I know it may seem polly-anna-ish, but it helps.  Take a minute and write a real postcard or letter to someone you love - maybe you!
