I have thighs that hate me, I think they are getting smaller, but not really... Vacation is in a month, and I need some really good fast/effective ideas, I already walk/jog/run, Beach body Turbo Jam, little note cards that I get out of Self mag.... Something better than what I am doing to TONE the crap outta my legs, thinking about Spin Classes, anyone like those? Oh almost forgot.. I already have Pleanty of muscle in my legs, so I need "leaning/slimming" ideas... I swam and biked and rollerbladed, so I cannot do more muscle building things, I would actually like to donate some of my muscle, granted there is some fat protecting that muscle now ;)
well spin classes are really good but you have to push yourself with how much tension on the dial not giving up and riding the whole class out and you are shattered - i have really big thighs also hating them and i understand but it seems weight comes off of your top half before drastically changing the bottom half. ooohh lots of lunges and squats mabey with a bit of extra weight on a bar or some dumbbells mabey????
hope this helpd
Oh good, so it will not make my thighs bigger? I really want to do it cause it seems so good, but when I biked when I was younger they made them bigger, granted I used a really hard resistance... So that is a problem, but I am all about being unable to move after it, I love being exhausted after workouts, it seems so much bette that way.
I've taken a few spin classes. I didn't really notice a difference though, I probably didn't stick with it enough.
My thighs are relatively small, but I have pretty much NO muscle :(
You can donate some to me!
I say this while sitting on my arse drinking and eating brownies...ugh.
^I want brownies! lol.
As for spin class I was taking one a couple times a week and if you stick with it it does help. My instructor told us that you will not get big from spinning which is true he wasnt big at all he was very lean and cut(he does cycling and spining). I lost some fat on my legs and I notice it on my inner thighs. I wish I could tell you exactly what I did, but I did alot of things like : spinning, elliptical, running, lunges (i think these helped to firm up) squats could help, i dont do them because of knee problems. I think any strength training that uses ur own body weight as resistance will help. I really started to see improvement when I did them.
You know the spin class can work, but a lot of it depends on your height and your body structure. If you are short they may tend to gain muscle quickly, then spinning might not work. When i have clients like that, i will deliberately overtrain there legs, when you overtrain the muscle the muscle will naturally get smaller, that is your body trying to protect itself. I would try workoing legs everyday with leg extensions, leg curls, squats, lunges and leg press, 4 sets of 12-15 reps, push yourself hard, mix that with the cardio and you should start to see results.
there's that word again... that "tone" word....

I have been spinning regularly(almost 6 days a weeks) and have the same problem.I am short(5 '1") and most of my weight is in the lower portion of my body.I was thinking of bumping up my weight training.Does training the lower body without recovery days really work?I would like to loose inches on my legs.
my current routine:
Squats, lunges, hamstring curls, leg extensions, leg press.
