Is a Bagel so Bad?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, I know a bagel isn't exactly healthy, but is it unhealthy?

I'm planning to have a bagel for lunch today, not toasted and no cream cheese or butter, either plain or with ham and mustard. I'm fitting it into my calorie intake, so do you think it is oaky to eat for lunch?

THANK YOU EVERYONE AND GOOD LUCK!

I don't think a bagel is too bad as long as it is not too big and paired with some protein.

They have these small bagels that are about 100 calories and whole wheat. They are pretty good. So, with some turkey on it and maybe some tomato it would be ok. I would definitely find something that whole wheat or grain in it.

Good luck.

As long as you know how many calories the bagel has. Some have 300 or more...I can have three w/w tortillas for that. But if you can have one for around 200 cals and use lean ham with mustard, add some veggies too..go for it!

I honestly don't think bagels are bad. I used to  have one a few times a week, toasted w/ light butter or jelly with a cup of tea for breakfast and then eat sensible meals for lunch and dinner. I found that I lost weigh consistently as long as I monitored how many bagels I had per week. Though to be honest these were the results for me almost 7 years ago and as we get older our bodies of course change. At 38 I may have a bagel once or twice a week instead of daily. A small to medium sized bagel with low fat toppings should be fine.

A bagel is not bad. The biggest problem with bagels and a lot of foods served in resturants is portion size. Everything is over portioned. As long as you have the right serving, accuratly record it in your calorie count and stay within your daily totals your fine. My doctor told me to eat what I want, but make sure I didn't go over 1800 net calories a day and try to balance my protiens, carbs and fats. That's what I use this sight for.

whats a good amount of carbs, protein and fats?
