Baggy Britches...dilemma?
It is finally warming up where I live so I pulled out my summer clothes. And they look ridiculous on me!
I've been losing weight at a snails pace so it took a long winter for me to realize I'll need a whole new wardrobe to replace my warm weather baggy britches. But I'm not done losing weight yet. Do I buy new clothes? Do I wait? Goal is still a couple months off. Do I look as silly as I feel in over-sized clothing? They are probably 1 or 2 sizes too big. By the way, this is a very positive complaint!
How have you all solved this most excellent dilemma?
Go to the local Good Will or Salvation Army and pick up a couple (VERY CHEAP) sets of clothing just to last you the next couple of months. Or, if you are going to continue to lose weight- then your current cold weather clothes can be altered into warm weather clothes now (Cut-offs etc.) - they won't fit you next winter anyway! CONGRATS!
thrift store
I like the thrift store idea. I also found some places around me tha are basically dollar stores. while their clothes aren't top quality..how can you beat $10 for a skirt..and $4 for a shirt. :) And its new.
I have also bought a few elastic waisted skirts for the summer.

You'd be surprised on some really nice stuff they have for really cheap!

Some of Ross's stuff are really cheap and some don't look that bad.
I've been hitting wal*mart... and since I live on a military base, clothes are the PX are generally decent priced. I just discovered the good will off post too (it took me forever to find it)... and I only go a size or two lower than I am now... so even though they might be a little snug... I use that as my motivation to fit into them when I finally lose the weight I want to lose and get to where I want to be :)
Thanks all! These are some genius ideas and I'll definitely be using them.
I guess I hadn't considered that I'd move through that many sizes. I was quite startled by it. Dang. I just bought most of my summer clothes (that no longer fit) on sale last fall and have only worn them a couple times. hah! I've never been so ecstatic about wasting money...but I'd rather not make it a habit if I'm going to continue to shrink.
Sometimes you can get deals on ebay as well. My mom had actually bought me something on ebay from somebody who had lost a few sizes. So, that can help fund your new wardrobe too!
If your old big stuff is still good then you might want to consider consigning your good stuff and use a consignment store - that's what I do. I started with my 18's and bought 16's and now I am sending in my 16's and getting 14's which works pretty well.
Your consigned pieces don't pay for the total cost but it is pretty cheap.
Buy a few new items for yourself! You deserve it and you'll feel and look good.
TJ Maxx. I love that place.
Although if it were me, I would buy as cheap as possible or modify existing clothes and go out and buy some other kind of reward. I, personally, could really use a manicure... maybe that'll be soon.
if you have some things that you really liked that are now too big you could also get them tailored, it's really not very expensive, probably about the same as buying new stuff at walmart. but it's also fun to get new stuff as a kind of reward.
I purchase a few things to get me by and make sure to invest in a belt!!!
I just went through this 2 days ago!!!! A friend of mine had given me some slacks for work that she had grown out of (she had surgery). they were too big to start off with, but do-able. i've only lost 17 pounds, but a lot of it was from my butt area, and the slacks just look ridiculous on me now. so i retired them the other night. but like you, i'm no where near my goal, and i dont want to spend a fortune on clothes that i'll be shrinking out of soon. I went to Goodwill and found a few things. I also went and got two pairs of capris from WalMart. I like Goodwill though. I paid $3.99 for pants, and i can afford to buy a size smaller to grow into later.

TeeHee! I was just now laughing about the belt I'm wearing. I punched an extra hole in it a couple weeks ago and it's about time for another. Yippee! Another $55 down the drain!
By the way, I've only lost a couple pounds in the past month (at 5'11", that is minuscule). So this belt problem is attributed to my body toning up, which is very encouraging.
And like lisa_m23, I've lost a bit of booty. Now, for my legs. Come on legs, it's your turn! Mamma needs a new pair of skinny jeans!
My piece of advice - get rid of the baggy clothes once you have new stuff. I've found it a bit too easy to slide back into those old clothes since they're sitting around only to find that I've gained some weight back or whatever. I'm sure lots of people on this site know what I mean.
Congrats!!
Steve and Barry's. If you have one near you this store is unbelievable.
