Baggy clothes... boo, hiss, boo...
In my bad old, fat old days I made that classic mistake of thinking that if I wore roomy, elasticated clothing it would conceal the worst of the lumps and bumps. Anyone else do that? Well here's a salutory lesson. Put some of the clothes I used to wear on at the weekend to do some messy jobs around the house and caught sight of myself in the mirror. Bloody hell... I looked as enormous as before I lost weight. Ditch the baggy clothes people... they're not helping.
It's all true!
I've been trying to get the most out of clothes. When you lose a lot of weight you have to buy new clothes once the old ones get too big, but it get expensive.
So I was trying to make the work clothes last as loooong as humanly possible (some tops and trousers 2,3 even 4 sizes too big)
Obviously, I looked like a sack of **** and not getting any slimmer drowned in a sea of fabric. One day, i bit the bullet and bought some (cheapish) fitted pencil skirts and tops and people were shocked and kept complimenting me on my "sudden" weightloss (uhm.... I actually lost 125 pounds over 2 years) Just goes to show!
Ditching the baggy clothes will instantly drop you 10 or even 20 pounds folks!
I know this is true. I look awful every day :)
Baggy and I would pick dark colors...I wouldnt wear light colors because it showed all the rolls.
Fitted clothes (those with buttons & zippers not elastic waist) also serve as an indicator if your putting on a few pounds or or if you're maintaining. They also help to serve as a reasonable goal to get back to.
Hmm...I guess that makes sense. I personally wear baggy clothes cause I like them. They're comfy. :0
But I if I was trying to look good, I'd definatly go with something fitted. :0
Totally agreed. Baggy clothes do look dumpy and there is a flattering fit out there for every body type IMO. Man- I would love to get on What Not to Wear and have Stacy and Clinton totally make me over!
I quite like the "boyfriend" look though... of slightly big jeans (just one size up - I have enough of them lying around still!) and yawns and sweet slouchy tops and bed hair. Ironically it only works on me now I'm little - when I was bigger I just looked like I couldn't dress myself!
I totally agree elastic is the devil.
Haha, What Not to Wear is the best! I would like to think that what I wear isn't nearly bad enough to get me on the show (although that's what most of the people say when they're surprised, isn't it), but I would dress bad on purpose if I thought it would get me a shot. I would do it for Nick alone to get at my hair!
I echo the thoughts on wearing more fitted clothes - as long as they are the correct size! Wearing fitted clothes that are still too small is no more flattering than those that are too baggy :)
If any of you want to know some thoughts on shopping for body style, my daughter is starting a business in this field. She took me shopping for Mother's Day at Jones New Yorkand when I arrived, she had a large fitting room all set up for us with all of the clothes picked out for me according to when I would wear them -- casual (I'm a stay-at-home Mom) and church/date night (not at the same time, of course!). It was the most pleasant shopping experience I've ever had. She has done the same for several others, in different age groups and body styles.
Here is her blog: http://www.fashiontablet.blogspot.com/ which talks about fashion in general (and has our shopping excursion on it) and she also has a facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=580002 191&ref=mf#/group.php?gid=94869515831& ;ref=mf

lol thats all well in good but the ruffled tops just make me look weird lol
I've been holding off buying new clothes, too, because of the expense. My brother gave me some of his smaller clothes that he doesn't like/never wore that look so much better than the baggy pants and shirts I have been swimming in! This weekend I wore a pair of my old cargo pants to dinner at a friend's and was told it is time to retire them.
Why hide our weight loss? And I agree that there are good looking form fitting garments in every size.
I completely agree! I never liked the baggy look myself, but I remember going to a Christmas party a few weeks after my daughter was born and being so embarrassed about how I looked because I had to wear baggy clothes. I may not like the size I am now, but I swore from that point on I would never wear clothes that made me look like that again.

My wife has laughed at me for years for holding on to older clothes that no longer fit as I've steadily gained weight. Now that I've lost 44 pounds (and still losing), I'm starting to be able to fit into some of my older jeans and shirts, at no additional expense for clothes that fit. Who's laughing now?!

Haha! Yeah, I would think so! But she also has info for men, as well..
When I lose the weight I have put on, I intend on getting rid of all my baggy, loose fitting clothing. It contributed to my weight gain in that I would wear loose clothes because when I overate it would hide the bloating. This bad habit grew from one pound to thirty. And now even my once baggy clothes don't fit. It was a huge wake up call.
double post, sorry guys!
The baggy look definitely doesn't do it for me...comfortable but flattering clothes definitely take another 10-15 lbs off for me without any extra work! Even my workout clothes I've bought cheap sweats in a size that fits and gotten rid of the old baggy ones.
I like baggy clothes! My job requires a uniform so my off time I like wearing looser clothing. :P
There's looser and baggy. For mey, anything 2 sizes too big is baggy. There are clothes that are cut to fit but are loose which can look very flattering.
Overall, I'd say that my butt is sufficiently sized not to add another 2 inches of cloth and all the wrinkles from ill fitting clothes.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
