Baked Beans?

What is everyone's opinion on plain generic baked beans (without pork or anything in it)?

they taste pretty good

for some reason the skin on black beans seems tougher to me then other beans and the rich flavor is too much for my tastes. I just can't stomach them for some reason. I don't like em.

*Edit oops lol I need glasses thought I read black beans

Mmmmmmmmmm baked beans love em! Make em homemade then add some sugar free maples syrup some low sodium bacon crumbles and some chopped onion.

Yummy!

.
I'm a vegetarian too, but I love the taste of beans too much to mess with them. Heck, I could live on plain beans!
I'm suppose to be eating more protein and get tired of meat, so am eating lots of beans, fixed all different ways.  I don't eat pork if I can help it, and don't think baked beans necessarily need it.

The only problem with baked beans is the obscene amount of sugar added to it.
Sugar isn't the only problem, there's lots of sodium in most canned beans too. But you can find low-sugar and low-sodium baked beans in most supermarkets.
you can buy dried beans and make your own, with no sodium.
I miss having Wattie's baked beans :( Eh, yeah, lots of sugar and sodium and you can make your own, but.... it's nice to have a can. I love them on toast for brekkie.

The sodium is irrelevant in terms of calories.

@dm84: Who said that this thread was only about the caloric relevance of baked beans? Some people have to watch their sodium intake as well.

Nobody said that.

But the only people who really need to be concerned about sodium are people who already have high blood pressure, or add salt to everything they eat.

That's why I said 'some people', not 'all people' ;)

On the other hand it's kinda obvious that if these forums are frequented by people who look forward towards loosing pounds, a moderate percentage of them will be overweight or obese, and most of them will be in turn cursed with high blood pressure.

I maintained an acceptable blood pressure when I was obese.

You should be careful before making assumptions.

Read my post again. I didn't say that ALL overweight or obese people have high blood pressure.

You'll agree with me when I say that people who are overweight or obese run a higher risk of developing high bloodpressure amongst other things than those who are at a healthy weight, or won't you?
Sorry to jump in here haha but I don't see why the comment was necessary on how sodium is irrelevant to calories...the post just asked everyone's opinion on baked beans...not their opinion on the CALORIES...so saying the sodium can be quite high fits in nicely with the original post.

I don't really see why it was taken as offensive and personally I don't think e-a-t was making horrible assumptions, especially since she says MOST people and SOME people...not ALL people =P

Just my thoughts while reading

And, to the OP, I love baked beans but try to avoid them because of the sugar and sodium.  They are yummy though =)

* rolls my eyes.........and applauds deflepfan!

Leave the girl alone sheesh..........quite being so 'sensitive' She was not saying ALL PEOPLE!

yummy!!! i love baked beans with brown rice. it keeps me full for a long time too.
Baked beans are great, I eat them with buttered toast. I used to put tons of syrup on them, even the ones with maple syrup already added. Then I started calorie counting and don't add it anymore.
Baked beans are my fall back meal when I'm short on calories near the end of the night -- and I can't eat anymore cereal.  Great protien and fiber -- gotta suck up the sodium and carbs
