Anyone out here a Personal Trainer for Bally's?  If so - I'd like to know how you like it there?

I'm not one but I train with several of them and are good friends with them as well so I can give you some insight into how they work. I'll do it via PM though...

That would be great!  Thanks!

karen I'm sorry to insult your friends, but most big box type gyms have THE WORST trainers this world has to offer. They are worthless. I'm getting angry typing this. They follow the "Shape" guidelines of women's fitness which is about as current as "a women's place is in the kitchen"

95% of the trainers I have worked with, seen and known should be fired and demoted to washing towels. PLEASE do your research before wasting your money flinging around 5lb weights and doing ball squats against the wall.

UGH.

edit: here are some examples off the top of my head. One "trainer" didn't know what a squat rack was. Another "trainer" told me to stop using the squat rack and do my squats in the Smith machine (dangerous, useless) and a third, my favorite, interrupted me while I had 185lbs on a bar to let me know I'm lifting to heavy. REALLY? I SEEM TO BE LIFTING 185LBS NO PROBLEM.

Spiro - thanks.  I wasn't interested in hiring one.  I was wondering how they liked working there - if they made enough $$, etc.  The one by my house is hiring... I lost my job in Feb and there is NOTHING out there to apply for.  I mean since Feb - there were 3 jobs that would match my qualifications!

One job was 70% of what I made before and I interviewed for and am still on the "short list" - It has been more than a month.   It is also a pretty long commute for me.

Another - an even farther commute is less than 1/2 of what I made before - I interviewed and was "overqualified" for the position.  They said I'd probably leave as soon as I found other employment.

The third - I didn't get that far - just sent my resume Monday - Tuesday I got a "no-thank-you e-mail".

SOOOO - personal training at Bally's may not be all bad!  PS - I DO lift heavy!

Ha ha, yes we know you lift heavy. I think you would be a great trainer. What certifications do you have?

I was thinking about starting to study for one. Not that I really want to have any responsibility for someone else's body but I'd like to learn the right & safe way to also help my mother. Oh & to keep any job options open as well. Heck I would love to just be a receptionist and workout for free at a gym, in Hawaii of course. Anyway sorry for the hi-jack.Sealed

I understand where you are coming from Spiro, and my gym is no exception to having trainers who have no clue. Luckily I got the one who does have a brain and knows what he's doing.

Yogagirl ~ Did I ever respond to you? LOL Sorry, this thread seemed to have slipped away before I got a chance to see it again. If you are still interested, let me know and I'll fill you in on the details.

Karen - yeah - I just noticed this thread again.  lol.  It had dropped off the radar and I didn't notice it comming back.  No - you didn't PM me, but I did put the interview off.  I am going back to school for no worker left behind program - to get some more IT certifications.  If I got a job, I couldn't get the training.

Octo - thanks!  I think I would LOVE being a personal trainer, but not sure they make enough money.  I don't have any certifications, but they were willing to train.  I am not sure how "worthy" their training is.  One thing I have to say is that they make you take a test prior to hire to make sure you know basics.... like formulas for heart rate, anatomy and nutrition!

Personal trainers that I have employed make anywhere from 72,000 to over 500,000 a yr.

At some of the franchise gyms out there that hire personal trainers to rep them..I believe [from people I know that work at them//ie: Golds..Worlds...LA Fitness] they av. between 46,000 and 115,000].

Being a PT takes time to make a success..but with proper education, training and on-going training...a person can do quite well financially.

As for Bally's.....no idea.

hmmm, well from what i understand certification is something most gyms look for. but i think if ballys can train you then its a starting point. but if you are really passionate about it & do want to make some money certification is something to look into at some stage too. many seem to want experience & certification & taking extra courses/exams in specific areas, especially in places where its competitive.

at my gym a few of them have the degrees in some sort of nutrition/fitness, and my gym isn't really anything special. its the gym of the hilton near me.
