Banana Chips

Quote  |  Reply
On occassion at a certain hotel I stay at, they have a pack of mixed nuts in the room, and inside there are banana chips. I would always have some and I always loved them, and to my surprise before, I found out that they are absolutely consumed with saturated fat. Does anyone know why? What's wrong with them?

I believe it's because they fry the banana slices to make them "chippy"

I LOVE banana chips too!! a little too much I'm afraid... :P

Banana chips are deep fried and covered in sugar and/or honey. I love banana chips, but I haven't touched one since I found that out!

I had the same revelation as you a while ago. I think they either fry them in coconut oil or coat them with it. The coconut oil makes them smell yummy...

You can make banana chips at home. My friend's mom used to make 'em.

oo! oo! How do you make them? Do tell!

I found this:  http://www.scoutorama.com/recipe/rec_display. cfm?rec_id=53

Most of the ones I found said to deep fry the chips!  Surprised

"oo! oo! How do you make them? Do tell!"

So I just made a quick phone call to my friend; apparently they too were fried, LOL! Very trixy, apparently she used paper towels to soak up all the oil before she packed them up for her daughter. I was fooled :(

darn it...  haha well thanks for making the call at least!Smile

I guess our banana chip consumption will have to remain in moderation.

EDIT: I just read 1kkat's link...hmm sounds pretty good, Thank you very much! I'll have to give it a try. There may be hope for us banana-chip-lovers yet!

But...still in Moderation, of course...Tongue out

i know how you can make 'em. and i think they taste just as good.

you slice the bananas really really really thin, put some splenda on them, put em in a silicone blanket and put them in the oven with the lowest temperature for like 1 hour (or until crispy)

yummy.

I LOVE THEM.  I have a food dehydrator. I thinkly slice them, dip them in lemon juice, then let them sit for aday.  YUM YUM
mmm...those both sound fantastic.
I have a food dehydrator too and I make banana chips and apple rings and even fruit leather for the kids with fresh fruit puree. The results are delicious and if you make it yourself you know what's in it.  I add things like honey, mint extract, cinnamon and a little sprinkle of brown sugar on the apple rings.  I even sometimes make dried plums, which strangley enough taste nothing like store bought prunes. Yummy!
